I dont know what he would be like as a coach, same as you, I haven't seen anything to indicate either way.

I just think he would be a good locker room presence, a vet at the end of his career still working hard.

This reminded me of how good you have to be to be "bad" in the NBA. I was looking to see if he had any kids, and Wikipedia doesn't know about it if he does.

He does. He also married his high school sweet heart.

He 's also been taking courses in broadcasting for a few years in his "spare" time. He presents very well and knows a heck of a lot about the game. I could easily see him calling games one day.

Him and his brother also run a basketball camp in the summers in Philly.

I really think that he and Coach D will get along really, really well. Like Sachmo said, Hammer is a good locker room presence, a vet at the end of his career still working hard - regardless of his crap season last season. Coach D is going to need guys like Hammer to help him transition IMO.

that's good info slam. I figured someone would know :D

Sounds like he'd be an okay coach. He'd likely not dive right into NBA assistant coaching though, I mean that would be quite a leap for a guy like him.

Damn the Hammer has had quite a celebrated career.

I think it's his demeanour and fundamentals would make him a good coach, he might need some seasoning in College or the D-League but I think he has it in him like Fred Hoiberg.

Some of the best coaches of all time came from the end of the bench.

Cheers Klomp, it will be a good test against one of the yardsticks in terms of rebuilding teams.

Do you have any idea what the Wolves SL team will look like? Will Rubio be back in time?

What do you think of the Dunlap hire??

I don't think Rubio's going to play. Didn't he tear his ACL only about three months ago? Too soon. He's probably going to miss some of next season.

I'm not sure that's why I was asking though you're right that it was only 3-4 months ago so I guess not.

I love the name Charlotte for a girl. Instantly makes her seem classier and more well rounded as a person.

Whoa! Rob Werdann is still in Charlotte. I hope Dunlap will find a better big man coach soon.

Oh you know Rick Higgins is kin of Rod. His sons have to have jobs man! Basketball operations assistant = get the rebounds for players after they shoot.

Seriously MJ, please fire Higgins and all of his family. We are not a charity organization for the Higgins family, this is an NBA franchise that needs to operate efficiently, especially in the smaller market we are in. What does Rod do? Cho does the work, Chad apparently is the upper management that MJ put in place, what does Rod Higgins do? At the Dunlap presser, Rod introduced him, and answered one question about offering the job to only one person. Every level of detail in what we were looking for, the coaching search, and the future direction of the team either came from Cho or Dunlap. You seriously can't tell me one thing that he does to add to this organization. Not one. Fire him, his kin, and Silas too and his kin. Too much dead weight for people who do nothing.
Who I woulda took:
2023: Miller | 2022: Duren | 2021: Bouknight, Jones | 2020: Ball | 2019: PJ | 2018: MPJ | 2017: Monk | 2016: Damian Jones | 2015: Winslow | 2014: Vonleh, Napier | 2013: McLemore | 2012: MKG | 2011: Knight, Kawhi

LOL...the first question asking about Rick Higgins is funny...you know he is kin.

As far as the longer post goes....I've actually seen a lot of people asking what Higgins does with the team and people saying they are co- GMs blah, blah, blah. No, Rich Cho is the GM, Rod Higgins is the President of Basketball Operations. Several NBA teams have a similar structure where the GM/President jobs are separated. Some teams choose to let one guy wear both hats. From an article I read when Rich was first fired by Portland, Higgins actually went to Jordan and suggested bringing Cho on as the GM. So to his credit, he recognized an opportunity that could make the team better and got it done.

Now, the family thing...do not sit here for one second and act as if this is the only team where family members end up with jobs. I know off hand where people in similar positions have made positions for their family....Danny Ainge being one. If you guys are going to sit here and tell me that if you are the freakin PRESIDENT of a team and you would not give your son a job as an assistant, I will tell you now that you are a liar. If your son graduated from college and you knew your team was blowing it up and was going to be bad, are you telling me you would not give him a roster spot to see what he can do? I mean it's not like we had a choice of Cory Higgins and Kyrie Irving to sign. Tell me another undrafted free agent we could have signed that would have made us better. That was the spot vacated by Collins/Garrett T that Higgins filled. Guys can sit here and act self righteous all they want but I can tell you for a fact if I was in the same position I would definitely give my sons/family members a chance. It's not like he's flooding the staff with all his family. As far as I know it's one on staff and one on team. And in this job market today, most people get jobs based on WHO you know and not WHAT you know.
