NOT MONTREAL: REPORT SAYS DEL PIERO WILL JOIN L.A. GALAXY

ESPN, citing a story from Montreal-based website Soccer Plus, reports that Alessandro Del Piero will be joining the Los Angeles Galaxy once the summer transfer window opens June 27.

Initial reports out of Italy suggested that the legendary Juventus striker could be set to sign a contract with the Montreal Impact, but team owner Joey Saputo denied those reports on Friday morning. According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, Saputo recently welcomed Del Piero as a guest at his family home in Miami and the team has the inside edge on landing him.

The veteran footballer is available on a free transfer this summer as his career with Juventus draws to a close.

Del Piero will leave Juventus this summer as their all-time leading goal scorer and appearance holder and has won 19 major honours in his career.

Anyone want to comment on the termination of Peter Nowak?

I've been boiling over him letting le toux walk and basically breaking up the team that made the playoffs last year. Plus, there was some dispute over whether he was looking for other work. Not a good situation.

Hopefully the move gets the team going for their game against DC United this weekend. But I doubt it. They've already lost to Toronto and Harrisburg for goodness sake.

Props to Montreal for their big win...damn Bryan Meredith is horrible.

Also, does anyone else think that red card was a terrible call? I can understand yellow but giving a red for that was a bit much...but apparently that ref hands out a lot of red cards anyways.

Didn't look like much, but hard to say without watching the whole game.

So I see Sounders v. Timbers is this weekend. Is that the best rivalry in MLS?

I was out in Portland last year around the time of the game and they were talking about it at length on sports radio. Wish we would get some of that in the Philadelphia area.

Hahaha TFC continues to be the worst team on the planet.

Up 2-0 again in the first half to just let it all slip away for the tie. I hope the TFC coaching staff noticed how shockingly bad we looked once we subbed off Torsten Frings.

What a joke of an organization.

The crowd in Montreal is dead tonight.. What gives?

4-2 lead, a fun team to watch in a great stadium and the fans are sitting on their hands.

Absolutely the best rivalry in MLS, even if Seattle is a good team and the Timbers are terrible this year. The Oregon-Washington battle in general is like the west coast equivalent to NYC-Boston, except a lot more civil. The Timbers-Sounders matchup can always go either way because the worse team always rises to the occasion to represent their city.

Not allot of people tonight, took an early lead, and coasted throughout the game... Montreal dominated, when they made runs the stadium was pretty loud... and then died out quick.. It was hot, sunny, and I guess people were just tired?

The people here suck, you stand up and people bit** to sit back down. I love the supporter section, I love that I'm at the corner in the first row so If I stand, I don't care and people are forced to stand up.

Montreal's played 2 huge games, especially with Ferrari out.

Felipe is BY FAR our best player, he's going to play in Europe next year for sure, he's way too talented to be playing in the MLS.

My favorite player, Patrice Bernier is from the exact area I grew up in, he was a legend growing up, hearing his name throughout the same league I played in. I recently met him, he's a great dude, and he's also playing fantastic.

I want to make the playoffs, especially in this inaugural season!

Also, the venues are sweet. I'll be watching tonight to see if Danny Mwanga gets any burn.

Good to see the Union beat up on KC last night. Maybe this is a turning point for them.

Both venues are horrible in my opinion, it's the crowds that make them look good.

Seattle's stadium is not soccer specific and Portland's pitch is way too small for good soccer.

Having to drive 20 miles from Philadelphia then take a bus through Chester to get to a heavily guarded PPL park certainly makes the downtown location of the timbers' stadium look ideal.

Never been to seattle's but it looks great on tv and a friend from Seattle told me it was a fun place. I'll take that over rfk any day.

Not denying that the crowds are a big plus though.

Who cares is CenturyLink Field isn't soccer specific? That's hardly a reason for it not being a good soccer venue. All of the soccer specific stadiums in MLS are tiny and feel like glorified college stadiums. By international standards, a lot of them are just flat out embarrassing. Seattle is probably the only team in the entire league who plays in a stadium that's even remotely competitive with some of the notable European venues.

I agree about PGE par...sorry JeldWen Field though. It's about 90 years old and one of the worst venues in MLS. Taxpayers in Portland won't pay to finance a new stadium. The sad thing is, there had been plans in the past for it to possibly host MLB or NFL teams.

The crowds and atmosphere for both teams' games is awesome. They have some of the best fan bases in MLS. As people from Oregon and Washington constantly argue, Soccer City, USA is somewhere in the Pacific Northwest...it's just debatable as to which city it is.

Not trying to be too critical of ppl park or chester, I like going to games there. Just making the point that location matters.
