Now I don't think what I'm proposing is realistic simply because I believe the Celtics would have to agree to terms with KG (assuming he doesn't retire) and either sign or renounce Ray Allen but would Cavs fans be interested in Anderson Varejao for the 21st and 22nd picks in the draft?
Why for Cleveland? The Cavs could be real good in 3 years if they build the right way through the draft. Losing Varajao makes it a little easier to get 1-2 more good draft picks. And Varejao won't be as big of a contributor in 3 years since he will be 32. Admittedly, I am not a fan of Sullinger's potential but the Cavs might be able to draft someone like Sullinger with one of those 2 picks.
Why for Boston? Varejao could take some pressure off of KG and be that second big man defender. The Celtics could also benefit from his offensive rebounding. The 21st and 22nd picks may be able to snag one good contributor next year at a real low salary but chances are that player won't be as good as Varejao next year. And chances are those picks won't fill as big of a need.
I appreciate the thought, and I do believe that the trade has a degree of merit simply because it was rumored to have been discussed in the first half of the season last year. That said, it's a bad deal for the Cavs as it stands right now. The Cavs already have 4, 24, 33, and 34 in this draft. At his point, they are trying to get rid of picks to move up because they don't want 4 rookies. Having 6 picks would only put us in a bigger bind. We could package them, but if this deal was to be done, it would likely be a 3 team trade for a higher pick. That said, I do believe the Cavs over-value AV beyond his physical talent at this point (not that he's a slouch) simply due to him being the only remaining veteran presence for a young team. Can't learn from a better vet than a hustling big like Andy.
