2012 NHL Draft

Post#1 » by Nolan » Fri Jun 22, 2012 11:55 am

Draft goes down today and it should be an interesting one with the trade rumours flying around.

Thought the NHL Draft Thread was already started? I guess we can go either Thread. My Canes are up 8th. They will go C in the 1st. Hoping for 1 of 2 things to fall our way. Maybe the teams ahead get nervous about the ACL injury and let Galchenyuk fall to 8th, or that teams pass on Grigorenko in fear he will go to the KHL. Either of these at 8 would be a huge get for my Canes.

Well, I have to add one thing to my Canes. Last 2 drafts, they have gone with someone from Kitchener. So it is entirely possible they go with Faksa at #8. Totally forgot about that until they mentioned it on NHL Network. Makes a lot of sense.

Will the Oilers be keeping Nail or did they draft him for someone else?

I could see them trading down with Montreal and taking a D (Murray or Griffin?)

Staal to the Canes for #8, Sutter and Dumoulin.

It's looking like Cody Ceci will make it to #15 and the Sens pick.

That would make me happy.

Nice move by Carolina. They definitely paid a high price but Stall is still very young and playing with Eric will be good for him. Ballsy, but me likes.

Great first day for the Caps too, landing Ribiero for one year, and scooped up the falling Forsberg, who is probably a top 2/3 player on skill.

Caps were easily the winners of the first day. Ribiero's terribly underrated, Forsberg's a stud and Wilson is a absolute beast.

Flames cleary the big losers. They could of made a deal to get Jankowski early in the second or even moved further back if was their guy rather than pass up on guys like Maatta, Subban, Gaunce and even Samuelsson.

When I saw The Ribiero deal I was like wow he's going to make Ovie look amazing next season. Going to be fun to watch The Oilers "Number #1" lineup if they could get a decent D-Man I can easily see them as 7th or 8th seed next year

lol, Washington can have Ribeiro. They improve offensively and on the powerplay, but he's not a good fit on that roster.

Johansson's probably moving to the wing considering Semin's as good as gone so Riberio looks like their 2nd line center. Backstrom, Riberio, Laich is a pretty excellent trio of centers.

Sounds like we're after Keith Yandle. Apparently the asking price is Gagner + Paajarvi, I have no problem with that but apparently Tambellini does.

Also i`ve got mixed feelings about Nail, yes he was the BPA but Murray would of been a flawless fit with our core.

You guys would be crazy to turn down that deal. Adding Yandle to the RNH/Hall/Eberle/Yakupov forward core would be silly

Yakupov was the right pick. First pick should always be BPA barring some ludicrous non-fit

Detroit finally drafted size, which I was pleased with. Less pleased that Kyle Quincey cost us the #19 pick

Lol ya that Quincey still looks as terrible as did when it first happened.

The Yandle package comes from a so called reputable insider but i'm starting to doubt his sources more and more.

Still not convinced Yakupov was the right pick, but i've been a huge Murray fan for a while.

I'm sure we could of worked something out with the Blue Jackets, they apparently really wanted Nail. I was thinking something like #2 and #31 for #1 and #62.

Habs absolutely killed it in the later rounds. Sebastian Collberg and Dalton Thrower should have been picked in the first round. Plus Bozon in the 3rd? Insane.
