Raps seeking to trade pick for Barnes (Rumour)

Post#1 » by goodjoey » Sat Jun 23, 2012 7:14 pm

hey guys,

feel free to merge this with the draft thread, but just got a little tidbit from my inside soure with the raps. I just found out that they have been actively shopping our pick and an asset (not sure if it is one or multiple players) for SACs pick. SAC is seriously considering it, but the deal is no where near finalized OR is it fully agreed upon.

Apparently the hope is to draft either barnes (or beal depending on the board). They are really high on barnes and feel he will compliment our team on both ends. I don't know what that means for our pursuit of a FA SF, but i would love to see him in a raps uni.

Thought I would share some insights, and leave it for discussion. How do you all feel about this, and what assets would make the most sense to give up? I was thinking one of our front court players, but doubt SAC would need it.

Makes sense since the only player they brought in that most likely won't be available at 8 is Barnes. Thought that was weird.

Haven't heard anything about trading up so I'm skeptical. But I wouldn't like to move up to 5. We'll have to give up a pretty sizable piece for an unknown quantity. I suppose if BC is so certain in Barnes' ability it may be worth it, but I don't see anyone at 5 that I'm dying to get after.

totally agree, it would be fine if we had an excess of talent to give up, but im thinking the trade would involve demar, which just creates another hole we will need to fix.

Doesn't surprise me at all to hear that a trade up is a possibility if Barnes is attainable.

If Barnes and Beal go top 4, that leaves us MKG....oh boy, who's gonna shoot for us?

Barnes makes sense since SF is our weakest position. I would like this potential trade more if Tyreke Evans was somehow included. We need a guy who can dribble penetrate in the worst way.

not going to say unfortunately. hope you understand. But if you are a realGMer you will notice that i've broken stories in the past, only to see them brought up a few weeks later from the wire.

I'm guessing it's the same source Le Doug uses:

Would definitely welcome it. The cost of three spots shouldn't be too rich. I'll believe it when I see it, though.

While goodjoey's source has to be taken with a pinch of salt, this isn't the first time he has shared what he has 'heard'. So interesting info none the less. It shouldn't come as any surprise that BC's first choice on draft night could be to package our pick and a player for Barnes if he isn't taken by Charlotte or Cleveland.

The fact that we have to trade away pieces to move up for Barnes, makes me hate Ben Uzoh and Alan Andersen... and those wins against Boston/Atlanta that much more.

That sounds fine to me. I'd guess it was Ed Davis and our pick. Would be great to get MKG somehow but happy with Barnes or Beal.

Anything can happen, but this isn't totally implausible. BC said trading up is unlikely, because teams were asking too much, but if they covet Henson to play alongside Cousins, they wouldn't have to draft him at 5, they could trade down to 8 (smaller salary). Of course if they covet Henson, they don't need Ed or DeMar. DeMar would be too much. Maybe cash...

doubt we get barnes at 5
if the draft order goes like this, then for sure we wont get barnes but might get gilchrist

davis, robinson, beal, barnes and then MKG with the 5th pick
but who knows, the cavs can pick MKG with thier 4th pick..

what i COULD see happening is.

To TOR: Garcia + #5
To SAC: Davis + #8 + #37

Its the only thing that really makes sense to me. Barnes is the player ive wanted this whole draft, he fills our biggest need is an EXCELLENT FIT next to Nash and would be an great pickup

2 expiring vets that help now. A young big to add to the Scottie timeline
I'd prefer to keep Stew and give Monte Morris
I'd really prefer to keep Morris and Stew and give the great Killian Hayes and 2nd round picks

i can see garcia coming to T.O, has a horrible contract and the kings need to get rid of it. but if that were to happen, we get less money to sign nash.. BUT if nash is already signed by the knicks or the heat, we just sign goran or make bayless a starter for a cheaper price. I WOULD BE EXTREMLY HAPPY if we were to get barnes.
