Don't Overreact

Post#1 » by Nanogeek » Sat Jun 23, 2012 3:41 pm

I've seen a lot of talk about trading this guy or that guy or making this change or that change but I think OKC has a strong team as is. Don't forget this team beat a Spurs team that looked virtually unbeatable. I think tweaks are in order but I think OKC needs to stick with the Durant/WB/Harden/Ibaka core. Money may make this core hard to keep together eventually but for next year I think this team has to give it another shot.

You're right the Thunder do have a strong team. Only two teams make the finals and they were one of them. And I agree there is no need to overreact about getting owned in the finals.

Personally I think the signing of DFish did more harm than good. I know he is a playoff legend but that legend was made close to a decade ago. I'd like to see a new coach but I think it's unlikely until the Thunder take a step back. Of course if Brooks drives a hard bargain it makes it real easy for Presti to look elsewhere.

To me and I think most Thunder fans is the question of James Harden and Serge Ibaka. Personally I'd like to keep Ibaka around. It's much easier to find a guy to play the 6th man role than it is to find a shot blocking machine who can dominate on the defensive end at times. Plus most big men don't really hit their stride until they are 25. Serge and James are both 22. I also think James Harden showed once again he is a luxury not a necessity. The one game the Thunder won in the finals he went 2-10. Unfortunately James did exactly what I was fearing before they drafted him. He vanished in big games. Just like he did his last 2 games at ASU in the NCAA tourney.

Regardless though of who they keep. If they keep them through out next season and make another deep run in the playoffs someone can offer them a contract large enough to have the Thunder let them walk and get nothing in return.

I'm all for being proactive and making a move this offseason to prevent letting one of them go and getting nothing in return. It gives the team time to gel if they do it this offseason compared to the trade deadline and a lot less headlines/headaches too. There will be much fewer comparisons if they trade one of them now for a high draft pick.

Before the finals people felt James could get a max contract from some dumb GM, I think his role is the easiest to replace. I think it's a no brainer Westbrook is 2 times the player Harden is obviously Durant isn't going anywhere. 6'10" jumping jacks who seem to be on a historic shot blocking path like Ibaka are hard to come by.

Guys who vanish in big games are a dime a dozen.

I don't feel I'm overreacting I'd rather just be proactive. I'd rather retool now and move forward, than do the wait and see approach.

Yall just need a better bench. Guys that aren't hack like Thabo or Fisher, etc. Thats the only way you can counter this Heat team in the future.
