I still can't believe that barely anyone talks about Darius Miller as a candidate for the 37th pick. He'd fit perfectly on our team.

I think part of it is the sheer depth of talent available this year in the second round. Normally I don't follow second round picks so closely myself, so I only know a few names. Probably the same for a lot of people. Hell, Reggie Hamilton was the leading scorer in the NCAA and he hasn't been mentioned much either. Meanwhile, this is a team that needs offense. Machado gets some mention as the NCAA leader in assist, but there are guys at the end of the first round who might slip too. Those guys people are hoping will slip are the ones a lot of fans probably want.

Not huge and grain of salt considering the source, but Doug says...
We keep hearing the "Euro market" has been picked clean coming from Doug through the team. I wonder if he's just recycling conversations he had years ago, but on the other hand, we've missed out on so many International prospects since BC took over that I wonder if it's just bad scouting.
A: Sorry but I have absolutely no idea about possible European picks with the 37th and 56th choices; and I don’t know that I will ever. I have been led to believe they think they might get a guy who can make the roster at 37, though.
And I believe, like most NBA talent evaluators, the Raptors feel the Euro market has pretty much been picked clean, it’s in a down cycle and there are far more suspects than prospects right now.

Re: Raptors NBA Draft Thread: 2nd Round Draft Picks
Jared Cunningham
If he's there and we don't take him I'll be pretty disappointed. He's an all world athlete with a great feel for the game. Talk about Beal in a westbrook form? This guy fits the bill better than anyone else in this draft.
Malik Waayns
He's capable of being a good backup PG. Once he starts sticking his 3pt jumper more frequently he's going to be a nightmare to guard. Can get to the rim with ease.
Scott Machado
The raps are thin at guard, so I would hope they focus on a couple of good ones in the 2nd round at pick 37.

Did we even work him out? I like what I've seen from this kid, too. I'm just skeptical that we're going to be doing anything with these picks. Stefanski couldn't even remember or pronounce some guys' names that they brought in, and BC doesn't pay attention past about pick #20. It wouldn't surprise me if our final pick is either sold or spent on a Canadian just for the positive headlines (like Alabi).

What is really frustrating me is how great this second half of the draft looks and BC probably doesn't care.

Jae Crowder is an all-hustle player. Kind of a shorter JJ. If he can guard SGs, he has a role in the NBA.
He is my pick at 37.

Cunningham is my pick. Hope he's still there when we draft, although I doubt it.

Re: Raptors NBA Draft Thread: 2nd Round Draft Picks
I care more about whether we take Scott Machado or not at 37 than who we take at 8. Machado playing in the MAAC is making the general consensus "I guess he was Kendall Marshall for the unathletic, unskilled mid major competition"... except Machado is MORE athletic than Marshall. He's MORE skilled as a scorer than Marshall, and if anything the guy racking up 'fake assists' is Marshall with the ability for him to pound it to bigs and shooters, plus the BYU game alone has Machado making sexier passes than I've seen out of Marshall all year. The reasons to throw a red flag at a MAAC player doesn't hold up at all, this guy definitely has the physical tools and skill level to have stood out at a higher level in the NCAA. I think when it's all said and done Machado will get picked at a place that looks Paul Millsap out of an awesome WAC career level insane. He put up an A+ on the report card for the single most important trait for his position (spatial awareness, passing) and is getting 0.000 recognition for it by the draft, I swear it's like 75% of teams never sent a guy to an Iona game and have a policy against ever drafting a player without doing that
It's going to be a glorious day... I feel my luck could change

And yet this raptors scouting department that you "have no faith in" and that "don't deserve any of the benefit of the doubt" are in that 25% of teams who have been to IONA and have bought him in to workout. Strange, according to you they don't know what they're doing if it comes to Harrison Barnes and yet for their interest in Scott Machado they appear to have your support. You can't rip them for their assessment of one player you don't like and then praise them for considering a player that you do.
I'm not after a 5 paragraph response either from you Mufasa as I won't reply but your black and white hyperbolic arguments which often read as entirely contradictory to something else you have said previously are just infuriating to read.

Re: Raptors NBA Draft Thread: 2nd Round Draft Picks
I think we're seriously considering guys like Machado in the 2nd round to be our 3rd PG and learn from Nash.
2nd round depends so much on who we take or deal for, and who falls or sneaks into late first. Backup PG, shooter off the bench, 5th big, or hustle bench versatile guy. Could see any of those, plus asking a guy to go to Europe, or Acy. A bunch of guys we brought in.
I like the Marquette guys Crowder and DJO, Ty Taylor, Jenkins, Machado, even our Canadians Sacre and Joseph.

Tyshawn Taylor is the guy I like for our 2nd rd pick, but I doubt he's there at 37. I think Ed Stefanski spoke highly of him too, so he's probably someone we're looking at, in addition to Machado and my guess is, Darius Miller as well.

Re: Raptors NBA Draft Thread: 2nd Round Draft Picks
Expect the Warriors, the Oklahoma City Thunder and Miami to talk when the Finals ends. Both teams, according to NBA whispers, are looking at possibly trading out of the first round (and therefore not having a guaranteed contract). The Thunder (No. 27) and Heat (No. 28), and even Chicago at No. 29
If thats the case BC should be looking into that. Most mocks have some players worth drafting from our perspective around the 27-29 range. Better talent than the 37th & 56th pick.

i dont think that heat are gonna trade their pick. if they get greg oden, then maybe but if not theyre most likly going to draft fab melo, they need bigger players.

Re: Raptors NBA Draft Thread: 2nd Round Draft Picks
Los Manos, I'm not going to make excuses for speaking with conviction (the 75% thing was a practical joke btw), if you believe in the consensus orders and mocking enough to give the pros the benefit of the doubt that's fine, but I think the history is on my side that all the extra hours and resources they've spent has done very little to separate their picks in success rate from if any of us were picking, and nobody should be afraid of building an argument that says would say they did a sh*t job evaluating a prospect. Their lists just aren't good enough to conclude that. They look exactly like the lists made up by casual NCAA fans who like big schools, big stars and surface things like raw production and raw athleticism, tournament production, what Chad Ford's list is, etc. They are more likely to MISS on the things that extra energy/resources scouts have should be getting, like players who rock lower tier schools or who's lack of production is for an excusable reason, then hit on them. I mean, look at Kenneth Faried. He's basically a more talented version of Thomas Robinson. He's more physically gifted which gives him more offensive upside, he's a more elite rebounder. I missed on him because I didn't see any Moorhead state games, saw everyone saying he's a lost cause offensively, and just assumed he was going to be Reggie Evans. There is no excuse, if the hardcore draftniks were in charge in the same way that scouts in like the NHL can find random as f*ck school prospects like Janikowski the Flames pick, to miss on Faried vs Robinson in talent just because of the school they played at. That's the kind of thing that makes me think there's no reason to put these lists on a pedestal, all their extra resources clearly don't prevent a list from coming out that's very similar to one some random hoops fan who watches the tournament and big schools only makes.
It's going to be a glorious day... I feel my luck could change

When you look at who we brought in I really think we already have a deal or deals in place to send them out. I mean what solid 2nd rdrs did we bring in to look at TT and Acy?! Come on....between the unimpressive list of players and the fact BC, Casey and Ed have REPEATEDLY said they don't want to bring in more than 2 rookies.....these picks are as good as GONE!

Mufasa you say alot of dumb **** sometimes. Saying Kenneth Faried is a more talented version of Thomas Robinson is one of them. Yes Faried is athletic and all but Robinson is the same athlete and is more skilled. Farried will be lucky to ever score over 15pgg. Hes an athletic rebounder and not much more.
Robinson has a shot at being all star eventually, cant say the same for Farried. Dont get my wrong Farried was a good pick for Denver but Thomas Robinson is a better player right now and has much more offensive potential

Re: Raptors NBA Draft Thread: 2nd Round Draft Picks
BC is a big idiot if he just gets rid of these second round picks! alot of potential good nba players. I wouldnt be suprised if a player in the second round becomes very good. Maybe not as good as ginobili but i can easily see some wesley mathews type players. Players who might start for alot of years in the NBA. Why not try to get ourselves one? we wont be winning a championship soon, might as well have some young players on rookie contracts.
All this to say i dont understand the logic of getting rid of second round picks. We cant get much for second round picks and we are basically giving a young potential nba starter to another team if they make the right pick. This second round is very deep too! at least draft them and put them in europe or D-league for a year.

Re: Raptors NBA Draft Thread: 2nd Round Draft Picks
I'm on the packaging our picks to move into the late first bandwagon, as I doubt we want to have 3-4 rookies on the team next year. And if we do, they might as well be ones we like more than what is available in the 2nd round.
The guys I'm interested in (many looking for shooters or PGs) and are available at 25 or later on either DX and/or Draft.net would be:
Tony Wroten
Marquis Teague (both guys need a lot of work, but hard to overlook what they bring from a physical/athletic standpoint)
Tyshawn Taylor (should be a solid backup PG)
Scott Machado (at 38, no moving up...little concerned about his physical/athletic package, but his production alone at the NCAA level makes him worth a look in the 2nd)
John Jenkins (really good shooter on a team that needs one on the wing, but unsure if he can do anything else well enough at the NBA level to justify being on the court)
Hollis Thompson (pretty much the same concerns as Jenkins, only at SF)
