Of course Kobe had better seasons than LBJ.

I think from 06-08 you could make a strong argument. I don't think it was as absolutely clearcut as Jordan during the 90's, or Shaq in 2000, or Lebron this season, where virtually everyone in the world sort of acknowledges they're the best because its that obvious--even at his peak, there were other guys in the argument with Kobe. But at the same time, I definitely don't think its crazy to say he was the best during that time.

NBA players know firsthand what it takes to impact a game, and which attributes should be valued when it comes to being a great player. I'd give their opinions a lot more weight than the majority of realGM posters.

U guys do realize I'm not going against their opinions? Go earlier in the thread when I agreed with a Laker fan that Kobe was the best for a couple seasons
I'm just saying, its a dumb argument to use player's opinions to back up your assertions

I'd say from the 2005-06 season until the 2008-09 season, Bryant was tops.

Of course, he didn't have nearly enough talent around him to garner consideration for MVP in the 05/06 and 06/07 seasons...he probably should have had (at least) one more during that period. He certainly wasn't going to win any during his first eight years next to Shaq.

As everyone can see from the countless videos and testimonials presented here, Bryant was generally regarded as the best player alive for awhile. His lack of multiple regular season MVP's don't really reflect that fact.

Yup. Like Barkley saying Kobe is top 5 all time, but Duncan isn't top 10.

but it shows there is a middle ground though, some people have Duncan an entire tier over Kobe, some people don't even acknowledge Kobe as a top 10 player.

IMO, Kobe was the best from 06-08, but you could easily make arguments for other players in those years.

06: You could argue Wade, LeBron, or Nash
07: You could argue LeBron, Nash, or Duncan
08: You could argue LeBron, KG, or Paul

Before or after those years, Kobe doesn't have an argument, imo.

This. He was widely regarded as the best from fans,coaches,media and the players during that stretch and rightfully so. Dude was insanely good.

And that's before we even get to the clutch factor.

He also had an excellent all around player in Lamar Odom playing with him os it was a 2 man team with role players and not a one man team with role players. Say what you will about Kwame Brown but for a time there he was actually a pretty good defensive minded role player despite being a complete bust as a number 1 pick.

The other Laker role players weren't really good but they weren't D leaguers either.

cause he isn't. theres no room for him. he's at 11. (he's worse than duncan/shaq/hakeem/lebron)

again, everyone is far to hesitance to name lebron as the clear cut #1 when he became that the second he added good defense (08). not to mention paul was also better than kobe that season.
