Would Lamar be worth the fat Kardashian?

Post#1 » by Tim_Hardawayy » Sun Jun 24, 2012 3:19 pm

Interesting question brought up in Ask Ira today.

Q: With Lamar Odom a free agent, and with Mike Miller's future uncertain, can the Heat sign Odom to a contract similar to Shane Battier's? He'd be great starting in the front court with Chris Bosh and LeBron James. -- Tony, Tampa.

A: First of all, I doubt the Heat would offer more than the minimum, or perhaps the disabled-player exception they might receive after Miller's back surgery. Then there is the question of what Lamar does or doesn't have left. But I think it would be a terrific career move for Lamar and would work wonderfully with the Heat's frontcourt rotation. The question is whether the Heat would tolerate all the outside "noise" that Lamar might bring. Otherwise. it almost makes too much sense not to make sense.

What do you guys think... if Lamar was open to it, and took less money (I think its clear at this point for him, his own personal happiness is more important than the money), would it be a good move?

If we assume most of his poor play last season can be attributed to just not having his heart in Dallas, we'd be getting a very intriguing piece that could give us incredible versatility. Imagine a lineup of Bosh/Odom/LeBron/Wade/whoever both defensively and offensively.

I'll be honest, I'd love to make this gamble. Getting a Ray Allen would be nice, but this would be the move that if it works out, could make us scary good.

Certainly an intriguing scenario. Would bring incredible versatality to our team like you said. And he's familiar. If you can get him for the mini mid level, it's a no brainer. But as of right now, he isn't a free agent. Dallas still holds his option, and will likely try to use his contract in a trade.

motivated odom would literally be the perfect piece if he seriously wanted to be here
and he'd have to be because of riley's strict body fat policy

the problem is i i dont think he can function outside of LA, or better yet away from kobe's bosom

Lamar knows the requirements by the Heat organization that are needed from him. If he meets thats requirements then bring him a board. His rebounding and being able to give quick outlets passes will do wonders for a offense.

His ball handling skills would do wonders in the Heat system but his shot taking is sub-par at times. It be ok if Heat get him at the right price.

That's strange to me, because I've always felt Bryant curbed what could of been an absolutley great career for Lamar Odom.

If he wasn't on a team with such a, to be nice about it, ball dominant superstar, he could of flourished.
Enjoy every sandwich.

Well, this is the place where Lamar turned his career around with the help of Pat Riley helping him transfer into more of a PF role iirc.

If the issue was Odom's heart was not in Dallas, then by all means, Lamar is welcome back for the added depth and size he brings. His skill sets are very unique and would be very appreciated.

Here is to another come back in Miami, Odom.

Heh, you could say we'd pay a hefty tax if we signed Odom.

For the Vet Minimum, sure.
But i would'nt risk our only way to get a player (the Mini-MLE) on him.
And i dont really see him as the perfect fit either..could he play next to Bosh? yea. but none of them is a real Center.

I live in Dallas and I watched every game and I would not want Odom in a Heat uniform for anything more than the vet minimum. His passion for the game is gone.

I'll take any Kardashian (The main 3). Imagine D-Wade, LBJ, and Bosh on that show...now that would be fun. :P

As for Lamar, I'd absolutely take him back.

Dallas isn't some small farm town with one road and more cows than people. It's a legit city. Still, it's not Miami, LA, or NYC.

If I had to move from L.A. to Dallas I'd probably also go into depression and I'm not even living the 'high life'. He couldn't handle it out there. The guy has a lot of good basketball left in him IMO.

If he comes back refocused, yes. Some things to consider.

1. He's played with Wade and UD before. The familiarity with the team and the city might make it an easy adjustment for him, and allow him to regain his lost focus. Plus, Khloe probably wouldn't bitch too much about being back in Miami.

2. Lebron James gets a lot out of his teammates. If nothing else, he's someone guys tend to latch on to and get comfortable around quickly. You know Bron would be in his ear trying to pump him up. Wade too.

3. The Heat organization promotes family, and that would be the third line of defense here. Get Odom to feel like he belongs here and let him know that last season doesn't matter if he can recommit to the game of basketball next season.

Odom could spell Bron or Bosh well...maybe even Wade at times. I would honestly, give him the mini-MLE if we knew he was coming back with his head screwed on right and his game intact. Our forward rotation would be

Bron, Bosh, Shane, Odom and Haslem. That is a deep beast IMO. Then we could focus on drafting and signing guards. If we got Odom, a center would drop in priority, because Bosh, Joel and Pittman/Turiaf could be our center rotation, with Odom and Haslem playing solid minutes at PF. PEACE.
