Depends if he wants to win or not. I do get the feeling if we sign him it will have to be for the mini MLE.

We need a big man for the MLE.... not another perimeter player for the MLE.

You can always find young guys playing the perimeter..... but big men are hard to find. We need an interior defensive presence. I was sick and tired of watching the celtics whole gameplan : "Live in the paint".........

our whole defensive system relies on our strong perimeter defense in LBJ Wade Battier Chalmers.....but once the opponent breaks through, then we have nothing in the paint. It's sad.

Riley really needs to grab a big man for us.

What big would be available? Camby? Kaman? Dalembert? and would these take the mini MLE?

other teams seem to find no name bigs to provide quality minutes for them in the playoffs. We saw it with Boston and other teams.

if you want me to provide you names, the Heat should hire me and fire the scrub scouts we currently have.

I don't see how it's laugh worthy to say Allen would take a much lower contract to play with the Heat. He's not 30 anymore. If he wants to be a sniper for a team that has serious aspirations to the title then he could ride out his final years racking up titles as a key role player. It's actually a very honest assessment of where he's at in his career.

I'm telling ya'll Kevin Garnett is signing here for the MLE...I'm 100% positive of that...hes a gamer and a competitor, plus Pat Riley, Ray Allen, Wade, and Bron will convince him by showing him the rings and the potential. Come on...you really think KG wants to go back to Boston? HELL NO, Boston only got past the Hawks because of ratings...David Stern gave them that series!!! KG is a winner and he deserves to be surrounded by Wade Bosh Ray Allen Chalmers and the GOAT in LeBron.

Ray will take the Vet Min...he wants a legit shot to win next year, Boston won't even make the playoffs next year. BOOK IT

Its going to happen...once Riley shows them the rings and makes them realize what a sorry franchise the C's are...they're gonna fall in line...

Ball So Hard playing over the PA on Opening Night...From Farragut Academy 6'11 Center #5 or whatever he takes here... KEVIN GARNETT!!!! Ray Ray will be shooting 3s for us next year, we're gonna be even more stacked and no one will beat us. IT WILL HAPPEN...WE CAN DO IT!!!

THE C's are a sorry franchise FYI most of their titles came when the league had about 6 teams lolz

No way in hell Garnett signs here, too loyal to Doc. Forget about it. He's a pos anyway.

Ray Allen on the other hand..

Honestly, we need to take the appropriate steps...

This is what took to win a championship so expand from there:

1. Find out what big pieces you are loosing to replace: mike Miller and james jones

For me this is Ray Allen and a vet min sniper like Kapono. I don't think ray comes here for less than the mle but if he does all the better... I also prefer ray because of wades health.... He could easily start. Kapono also a former heat can just come in to spread the offense.

2. Improve at the center position: our offense looked good but we weren't at a disadvantage there... It was our size up front.

Two things I would do. Whether Nash is willing to come here or not, Channing Frye is the center I would want. Great 3 pt shooter... 7rebs and over a blk a game... 6'11" and 250...good at drawing changes too.... High bb iq. I would see if PHX does Joel, dexter and cash for Channing.

2nd thing I would do. Is if knowing mike Miller is going to retire... Do one last thing... Get traded. Don't want to bid on Dalembert.... Trade mike Miller and cash(3mil) for Dalembert. Houston saves the 1.5 mil buy out and gets another 3 mil. Dalembert defense on Dwight and Bynum.... Priceless.

3. Homeruns... Low risk high reward... Gambles

Our rotation is pretty much set... But I offer vet minimums to Brandon Roy and Greg Oden. Just imagine if one panned out... Just one... Crazy.

4. Get younger... Draft BPA

5. Vet minimum... Ring chasers

That's my plan... Call it TITLE COLLECTING

Analyzing 2012 Free Agents

Post#173 » by truthiness » Mon Jun 25, 2012 2:09 am

1. Steve Nash - bad fit

Very loved on this board, but most people seem to fail to grasp that HE WOULD NOT FIT.
He needs the ball in his hands, but so do Lebron and Wade, he's a poor defender, so opposing PG's that are quick and athletic would shred the Heat defense (especially since there's no shot blocking C to cover his ass), he works best with a big that can P&R and surrounded by 3p shooters. You don't want Wade and Lebron to turn into 3p shooters, watching Nash run P&R all day.

And I doubt he'd be useful (or happy) if you tried to make him a catch-and-shoot player and tell him to go wait for the ball in a corner.

2. Kevin Garnett - semi-bad fit, greedy ****, fake tough guy

I call him the pink sock (don't google-image it) because he always lets the inner **** out, so I wouldn't want him out of general principle.

Basketball wise, he's not really a C, not really a shot blocker, he's not a low post offensive player, his offensive game is more mid-range J's (so Bosh kinda makes him redundant), he's old and less and less athletic by the day.

I am also pretty sure he will look to get paid, he won't accept vet's min or even the MLE.

3. Ray Allen - great fit, especially if Mike Miller and/or James Jones retire

He's a nice guy, unlike Garnett, and he's the best 3p shooter ever and would be a great fit.
He'd also give you some flexibility regarding Wade, meaning you could play Wade 25-27 minutes per game and have Ray Ray play 18-20, or you could sit Wade down in back-2-backs or against poor teams and let Ray Ray be the starter. You could have a fresh, healthy Wade for the playoffs, which would be a HUGE boost for the team.

I'd offer him the MLE and hope he wants to punish the Celtics front office for how they treated him.

4. Jason Terry - if Ray Allen says "no", he could play a similar role

I'd still prefer Ray Allen over him, and I kinda expect Terry to look for more money, especially since he already has a title.

5. Chris Kaman - he'll get more money elsewhere

He would give the Heat a post presence, enable them to play big, he's a good player but he'll get a much better offer elsewhere. And he'll take it. He's not yet old enough to go chasing titles.

6. Samuel Dalembert - he'll get more money to help another team get to the lottery

He looks like a good fit, despite him sometimes being downright stupid, and he'd fill a position of need, but he'll take the money.

7. Marcus Camby - not the player he once was, but still an improvement

I'd give him the vet's min, maybe even the MLE for 1 year if the other candidates refuse. I expect Juwon to retire, and Camby would be much more useful than Juwon.

8. Greg Oden - only if he took Eddy Curry's place on the roster

This would be a lottery ticket, and thus would have similar odds to pan out. If he takes vet's min to try and revive his career, fine, if not, good luck elsewhere.

Miami's own FA's

- Ronnie Turiaf: I like him and the fact that he plays with heart, and if no better replacement is found, I'd like him to stay, even if he doesn't play a lot

- Juwon Howard: he'll probably retire. It's about damn time.

- Eddy Curry: now that he's got a title, I'd use his roster spot to give someone else a chance to contribute

Other starter quality FA's

Tim Duncan - stays with the Spurs/retires

Diaw, Jamison, Landry, Kenyon, Billups, Andre Miller, Delonte, HInrich, even Kidd (whom I love) are bad fits. Even if they were to accept diminished roles, someone else already on the team or a skill of one of the stars makes them redundant.

And in general, pretty much every FA will either be too expensive or redundant. Or both.

Marginal FA's

There are 3 FA that I'd offer the vet's min if I still had open roster spots:

- Ryan Hollins: kind of an idiot, but he's young, big and athletic. I'd replace Pittman or Curry with him.

- Semih Erden: if Turiaf leaves/isn't kept, I'd replace him with Erden. I think he's better than his stats show.

- Gilbert Arenas: If both Mike Miller and James Jones retire, the Heat will be short on shooters (also on people with double initials), and I doubt both Ray Allen and Jason Terry would sign with the Heat, cause one of them would have to accept a really reduced role. For that reason, I'd sign Ray Allen and Gilbert Arenas. I figure Arenas is a lottery ticket, kinda like Oden, with better odds of winning but a smaller payoff.

@mods - I know there are other threads dealing with FA's in general or one FA in particular, or trades or other off-season related stuff, but I put some work into this and I think it deserves its own thread.

Someone who has been mentioned for you guys yet, but I think would be an incredible addittion is Paul Millsap. He's like Udonis Haslem, but with skills.

Is he even a FA? And if he is, there is 0% chance of Paul Millsap signing for peanuts.

I think if we do get a center it will be Camby. Most likely to accept low contract.

I really don't expect huge overhauls. I expect us to develop Pittman and Cole.

Camby might come here because no one is going to pay him huge amounts of money at his age. Only us would welcome him I believe

Or the Celtics.... anything when coming to an affordable Center or eve the draft, have to watch out for the Celtic's :|

Ray Allen, I really believe we can land this guy. If it comes to family though, he might go to NY because it's closer to Boston and wouldn't want a major relocation at his age or stage in career.

BUT IF HE WANTS TO WIN... lol... obvious answer is where to go

I think the Celtic's basically canceling a trade or the trade not working out last minute, is what would make Ray Allen not resign with Boston. They were going to trade him. I remember a wiretap saying he felt backhanded by them. He's been knocked out twice by us, is having problems with Rondo... for pride or something he would rejoin but if he wants to win, again we're the obvious answer.

Rondo was even in huge trade rumors or something about looking at Rondo's worth. Damn that looks so dumb now. lol@Boston.

What about Courtney Lee or Mickael Pietrus? Both are elite perimeter defenders and knockdown 3 point shooters. Either would come cheaper than Ray Allen and do more on the defensive end.
