Nash to likely choose from 3 teams

Post#1 » by Revived » Sat Jun 23, 2012 6:12 am

One of the most coveted free-agents this NBA off-season is Phoenix Suns point guard Steve Nash. Nash, who is 38 years old, is one of the very few players who, steroid or performing enhancing drug-free, has gotten better as he has gotten older. Nash averaged 12.5 points, and 10.7 assists per game last season while shooting 53% from the floor and 39% from the three point line. The .532 field goal percentage is the same that Nash shot during the 2006-2007 season, one season after he won back-to-back MVP’s.

So with Nash rejuvenating his career it is no surprise that many teams, including championship contenders like the Miami Heat,Oklahoma City Thunder and Los Angeles Lakers among others, are interested in Nash’ services. But those same teams, who will almost assuredly be in the NBA playoffs next season, may not evenhave a chance at acquiring Nash. Rumors are being floated around, via legitimate sources, that Nash has narrowed his list of possible destinations to three teams, the Portland Trail Blazers, Toronto Raptors, and Phoenix Suns.

Now seeing that list of possible destinations may have thrown you a bit of a curve-ball, solely because the three teams on Nash’ list aren’t exactly teams who are expected to be championship contenders next season. And at the age of 38, going on 39, how much time does Nash really have left? But at the same time the list of possible teams is not that much of a surprise for a guy like Nash.

The Suns, for instance, are the team that Nash finished last season with, staying with them for another 2-3 years would make sense as Nash is a very loyal guy. The Raptors currently play in Canada, the same state where Nash grew up, and going back to your home roots is always an intriguing factor for guys at the end of their careers. The Portland Trail Blazers, although not as bad as the Raptors or the Suns, are the one surprise team on Nash’ list. There’s no real locational connection, as Nash currently lives in New York. The only thing I could think of is that Portland, located in the state of Oregon, is just a state away from Canada.

Whatever team does wind up with Nash, whether it be the Raptors, Suns, or Trail Blazers, they will get a player who is dedicated 110% to basketball, and who never stops working to improve his game.

I think the Blazers make most sense out of the 3. Nash with LMA would be NASTY!!

It would be like the 04-08 Suns but with way better defense....Alridge can play A'mare's role, Batum and Matthews can play Marion and Bell's roles.

Then add in two talented rookies from the draft at #6 and #11....that's easily at top 5 team in the West barring injuries.

Its funny. I wrote about Nash to Toronto MONTHS AGO! I was ridiculed. Now look whats being said. 8-)

Nash to Toronto makes perfect sense. Toronto will end up trading their draft pick to Philly or Chicago for Iggy or Deng. Obtaining Iggy/Deng shows Nash that Toronto is serious about competing.

What's important is them getting that SF without giving up Calderon so we can do a S&T. :D

If he goes to Toronto, im guessing he goes as a FA. Their under the cap, and can afford to pay him what he wants. We were/are there for a S&T if the team Nash wants to go to is one thats over the cap. Then they need us to help in a S&T so Nash can get more money.

We are not needed in a Nash to Toronto deal. :(

Yeah they would. Adding Iggy + Valanciunas puts them 2M under the cap. He aint going there for a few mil.

Calderon + 2013 1st (lotto protected) will be the DEAL.

Just resign Nash, I'd hate to see him rot in Toronto.

Please, that place would be sold out every night (they already average 17k per game and they stink) in the 4th largest city in north america. And if they get one of the rumored SF's they want (Iggy, Gay, Batum) they'll be in a much better position than the Suns or Portland.

BTW, i'm hearing that the Nets are the other team (if Williams leaves) not Portland.

not to mention they were a 50% team last season before bargnani got injured, and they're adding valanciunas ans upgrading the wings either via draft, trade or FA.
If they also get Nash i'd pick that team ahead of the Hawks, Bucks or even Knicks.

If that's real, that is absurd. Canada, the state that Nah grew up in? Seriously? :o :o :o

Meanwhile, several NBA personnel executives have confirmed that the Nash-to-Toronto rumors may have real traction.

"I've been hearing that from people that would know," said one Western Conference sharpie, sounding very much like the rest of us. "The Raptors may not be ready to win right away, but with (Andrea) Bargnani, (DeMar) DeRozan and maybe (Jonas) Valanciunas coming over next season, they could be pretty decent right away with Nash. And they could have enough cap space to get something done there."

ACtually Toronto is very far away from where he grew up (Victoria, I believe). Toronto is much different. More economic-based while Victoria is just a beautiful and amazing place to live.

Either way,

I think Toronto will shy away from a S & T for Calderon because if the team acquires Iggy, etc., it would be through trade, and Calderon's salary is neeeded to make that happen. For example (without giving up #8.. Calderon, E. Davis, a resigned Bayless, 37th, future first).

It's looking more and more like he's going to sign with Toronto unless its a smokescreen.

vancouver and vancouver Island, where Victoria is, and Toronto, is the difference between growing up in LA of SF and New york or NJ. A continent away.

That said, it's so close to his other home, in NY.
I think the sticking point is his kids being in PHX, so far as i know.

We know. It's just that one fan that has high hopes lol. We don't want Iggy for what it's worth, but we know he would cost us #8 for sure.

I hope Nash signs with the Raps for a few selfish reasons but also because I think he would be happy with the affect he would have on canada basketball as a whole. I'd like to see Nash re-sign in PHX if he doesn't come to TO. He doesn't seem like the ring-chaser-type. He's got more integrity than that, and I think in the end he will pick either PHX or TOR. Good luck in the sweepstakes anyways. If Nash doesn't come to TO, we're hoping for Lowry or Lillard possibly who knows but Nash is basicly plan A for Colangelo imo.
