Verlander two outs away from a no hitter against the Pirates.

Saw this on the wiretap the other day, haven't seen it posted anywhere

Charlie Manuel has been suspended one game for his nose-to-nose argument with plate umpire Bob Davidson earlier this week.

The incident occurred during Tuesday night's game.

Davidson also received a one-game suspension for what Major League Baseball called "repeated violations" in how umpires are supposed to handle situations.

The bolded part impresses me. No way does David Stern ever do that to one of his referees. Officials need to be held accountable too. They sometimes seem to have as big of an ego as the players do.

I remember that 1-2 punch of him and Mark Prior. They could have been dominant for a long time if they only stayed healthy.

Doesn't impress me at all. Umpires very rarely get suspended, continually miss calls and then instigate arguments with players and managers.

That's why it impresses me. Baby steps.

Don't care what anyone says. The Philly Phanatic is the best mascot in sports.

Big Adam Jones fan. 6 years 85.5 million seems like they overpaid a bit though.

Johan Santana no-hit the Cards. First no-hitter in Mets history.

And of course a St. Louis publication puts an asterisk by it...

http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/8091584/kevin-youkilis-traded-boston-red-sox-chicago-white-sox

BOSTON -- The Boston Red Sox have traded infielder Kevin Youkilis to the Chicago White Sox for utilityman Brent Lillibridge and right-hander Zach Stewart.

The AL Central-leading White Sox, who also received cash in the deal, have been looking for a third baseman with Brent Morel plagued by back problems.

The Red Sox will absorb all but $2 million of the $7.8 million still owed to Youkilis, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney

Stats from the same article

Stewart, 25, was scratched from his start for Triple-A Charlotte. The right-hander went 1-2 with a 6.00 ERA in 18 games -- one start -- for the White Sox before a demotion within the last week....

...In 31 games and 12 starts in the majors, Stewart is 3-8 with a 5.92 ERA...

...Lillibridge, 28, is hitting just .175 with two home runs.

I think if we wanted him we could have had him.

Yeah, they pretty much just gave Youk away. I feel like Theo would have at least gotten some kind of value for him other than slashing costs.

This seems to be the White Sox' MO. They, along with the Angels, like to absorb big salaries owed to fallen stud players trying to get some value out of them.

The fact that we're probably almost out of it coupled with Hart playing well at 1B makes it not worth it to me.

Well, Youkilis can play third, which is where the White Sox will put him (they have first occupied with two very large individuals).

But there was no point in the Brewers going after him.

Starling Marte opens up with a bomb.

LF - Marte
CF - McCutchen
RF/1B - (decent) Jones
2B - Walker
3B - Alvarez

Tallion/Cole on their way.

I'm sure I'm missing some other prospects.

Damn.
