Sam Smith summed it up:
Sam Smith wrote:Bottom line? Deng probably opens next season with the Bulls. The Cavs likely use their pick, as do the Raptors. The Warriors deal doesn’t make enough sense. You don’t get quite enough with the Rockets to trade an All-Star. The Kings remain, as they have, the most intriguing possibility, though there hasn’t been much talk from them.

guys, one thing to be carfeul of is that any deal involving us moving into the top 10 won't be announced until the draft anyways when we know which player is on board at which slots.

still, these reports about deng being reassured he isn't being moved means the chances of anything going down on thursday just went from a optimistic 50/50 to a very pessimistic 5/95. meaning, if we did actually pull off a trade that netted us lamb on thursday, i would fall out of my chair in shock and awe.

everyone keeping quiet until thursday would have been the best case scenario for any rumored deals. now, it looks like we'll sit at 29 and take daron lamb or john jenkins, whoever is still on the board, and move on. joy.

"the Bulls have Privately assured Deng..."

I guess not "privately" enough

So if WoJo is saying that, the GS deal is probably bogus.

Why would the Bulls need to run trade talk by Deng? I understand the answer is probably a testiment to how much they like him, but this seems to put an end to any talk if they feel the need to let him know about the rumors?

If the bulls keep the team the way it is they will be rebuilding in 2-3 years without a title.

At this point, everything is conjecture.

Where there's smoke, there's fire. I don't doubt that the Bulls have explored deals for Deng (and perhaps Noah).

And if that's the case, nothing is going to be finalized until the Bulls get "their guy" in the top half of the lottery.

I was always going to be surprised if Deng was moved. Even with the money in play, that is a pretty aggressive move by a rather conservative management team. Knowing how they think, they probably believe that their veteran lineup, minus Rose, can hold together until he returns.

I dont know why anyone would be surprised by this. Bulls never make constructive trades.

omg, I could totally picture Gar/Pax saying something like this.

Interpretation: "When we thought of areas we could improve on, we immediately thought of bench players who have already reached their ceilings. That left us with one perfect fit and that player is Miles Plumlee."

Guess you can kiss the Deng trade talk goodbye for now. Sounds like the Bulls are just toying with teams and actually never had any intentions to send him anywhere, just checking around to see if anyone is dumb enough to make some outrageous one-sided trade for a statistically average basketball player. Guess it was too good to be true. :(

Why would the front office need to assure Deng of anything right now? He works for them. Players get traded, it's a business. The only reason they'd do that is to tell him that he's not being traded period.

IMO, the only logical trading partners have always been TOR and SAC. But Toronto isn't using their Nash cap space on Deng, and sounds like we don't want to take back a $10m contract in Calderon. Sacramento is the only team left that it makes sense to deal with, for some combo of the #5 and/or Evans. But if Houston would be willing to give up Lowry + 14 + 16, Sacramento should take that offer all day over injured Deng.

the other thing about it is that we get 3 rotation players for 1. we'd be replacing the depth we're bound to be losing with the bench mob and, for those gung-ho about it, getting more balance O vs D. i gotta think it gives us a better shot at contending THIS COMING YEAR

For someone who is pretty pessimistic about this team (especially consider Rose of course), I have to agree. I'd like to not dump so many picks though.

Good. Now can we all talk about Jeff Taylor and Doron Lamb. I've been watching a ton of college ball and I'm not convinced that they aren't the best shooting guard and small forward in the draft (and they could both be available at 29).

Edit: Meant to say with the exception of Beal.

K.C Johnson‏@KCJHoop
Rose's injury has made Bulls consider things they otherwise wouldn't have. But trading Deng and taking back $ isn't one of them. So GS no go

Pretty much. They fall in love with their players. I'm sure they are asking an arm and a leg for Deng too, that's the sad thing. They'll end up using up all his worth only to try and trade him when his value is at his lowest or he'll be recovering from his latest injury that will have kept him out of games at some point in the next season or two..
