I haven't seen many people suggesting we move down if the guy we want (e.g. Beal) is there at #3. If he's not, and e.g. if Portland and we both want MK-G next, we'd take him and arrange a trade that would only execute if the guys we wanted were there at 6 and 11 and Portland took them for us.
Possible to disagree w/ that kind of plan, but it's not ridiculous. People are always absolutely certain in the run up to the draft who is going to be great and who not. But it doesn't turn out that way, does it? Take a look at who you were absolutely certain about a year ago, why don't you? A lot of people were awfully sure about Derrick Williams; a lot of people were awfully sure Kawhi Leonard was rated too high. (yes... we were all absolutely certain and absolutely right about Faried; leave him out)
The draft is always a crap shoot to some degree. There something to be said for spreading risk. All the same, I'd draft Beal at #3. If he's not there, I'd be looking at all options.
