I WANT IT NOW!

League sources commented yesterday that the early word regarding the Magic’s draft plans include trying to trade the #19 overall pick for a future draft asset. The Magic appear to be trying to get as much salary off the books as possible.

The #19 pick represents a salary of $1,181,800 this year and $1,235,000 next year, and it seems that cap space is more valuable than the player the team could acquire.

Can you read the article? They want a future draft asset in return and we're not the team that should do this.

Don't be surprised if that's what it is. Especially if Waiter/Rivers/Lilliard are gone.

"Duke’s Austin Rivers seems to be one of the players on a meteoric rise, possibly as high as #6 to Portland.
Apparently new Blazers’ GM Neil Olshey believes Rivers could be a real star level guy in the NBA and the Blazers have been debating the merits of taking him with the #6 and drafting the best available center at #11. The problem is the Blazers would be passing on UCONN big man Andre Drummond who most believe will be there at #6 and might be too much of an upside talent to pass on.

Common sense says go with Drummond, but Olshey has always been willing to take risks. If Paul Allen and the Blazers buy- in don’t be shocked to see Rivers go #6 because there is almost no chance he’ll be there at #11 as New Orleans is said to covet him with the #10."

There goes Steve Kyler again. He seems to come out of left field and contradict all the other "experts" and analysts. I just read Chad Ford's new mock and he had Portland taking Lillard and said the sleeper was Waiters.

Also helps when they have Hakeem on speed dial to Help Drummond develop.

And Mchale is no slouch coaching big men - best scenario for Drummond, by far

Also helps if he can play behind Dwight Howard for a season.

That pick would be Orlando's if they wind up trading for him. If I'm Houston, I'd take Drummond and forget Howard (since it's unlikely he'd resign there).

I think our first option if these players are gone will be Lamb. And it is possible that he will be available....

Jeremy Lamb Shoulder a Concern

If Jeremy Lamb doesn't go 8 to Toronto as some expect, there are rumors that he could really slide on draft night. Teams apparently are more than just a little bit worried about his shoulder, which David Aldridge first reported on. The injury that doctors have flagged is to his right shooting shoulder and there is concern that it could recur during his career. One team we spoke with said they felt he could slide right out of the lottery and into the teens. We consider Lamb to be the SG prospect with the most long term potential. But this shoulder injury combined with his ankle injury and inability to work out for teams before today (Portland) could cost him on draft night.

Chad Ford's latest mock and he has us taking...

13. Phoenix

Jeremy Lamb

Position: SG
Height: 6-foot-5
Weight: 179 pounds
Age: 20
School: UConn

Analysis: Lamb suffered a high ankle sprain in a workout in Toronto and has struggled to get well enough again to resume workouts. While GMs think he's talented, they have questioned his toughness. His inability to work out has hurt him a bit, too.

However, Lamb went into Phoenix over the weekend and toughed out a workout on the bad ankle. A source in Phoenix told me they were actually impressed with his toughness and willingness to fight through the workout. His performance there could keep him in the lottery. If Lamb is gone, Terrence Ross, Dion Waiters and Austin Rivers are all possibilities here. So is Arnett Moultrie.

That would be kind of crazy if we took Arnett Moultrie at 13. I just decided to pull up Hollinger's draft rater results to double check how Moultrie projected, and he was dead last on all bigs..

At the power forward spot, Perry Jones III is rated several notches lower than most, while two other likely first-rounders, Andrew Nicholson and Arnett Moultrie, rate as second-round picks. Also of note is Croatian forward Leon Radosevic as a decent second-round value play.

Bigs: The Rest
Name College/Country Rating
Perry Jones III Baylor 8.77
Leon Radosevic Croatia 8.77
JaMychal Green Alabama 8.73
Drew Gordon New Mexico 8.39
Tyler Zeller North Carolina 8.23
Andrew Nicholson St. Bonaventure 8.22
Quincy Acy Baylor 8.16
Fab Melo Syracuse 7.73
Garrett Stutz Wichita State 7.68
Mike Scott Virginia 7.50
Robert Sacre Gonzaga 7.37
Cameron Moore UAB 7.03
Meyers Leonard Illinois 7.02
Mitchell Watt Buffalo 6.77
Festus Ezeli Vanderbilt 6.54
Arnett Moultrie Mississippi State 6.42

And he ranks 42nd on Hollinger's board:

7. Making my board
Knowing everything we know, here is how my board looks heading into draft day. This is taking into account everything from the Draft Rater as well as what we know about the players' red flags, defensive pluses and minuses and one or two subjective calls:

2. Thomas Robinson
3. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist
4. Dion Waiters
5. Andre Drummond

6. Quincy Miller
7. Jared Sullinger
8. Terrence Jones
9. John Henson
10. Royce White

11. Bradley Beal
12. Harrison Barnes
13. Tony Wroten
14. Kendall Marshall
15. Marquis Teague

16. Draymond Green
17. Jeremy Lamb
18. Damian Lillard
19. Austin Rivers
20. Doron Lamb

21. Furkan Aldemir
22. Will Barton
23. Tyler Zeller
24. Evan Fournier
25. Tyshawn Taylor

26. Meyers Leonard
27. Terrence Ross
28. Perry Jones

Of course, but that (very likely) means it is a 2nd round pick three years from now, so I doubt anyone trades a first for that.
