what pick could Derrick Williams land

Post#1 » by pumunga » Mon Jun 25, 2012 7:11 am

its pretty obvious the Hornets are keeping their pick, but at what point do you think a team would pull the trigger on a swap for DW
1. Hornets
2. Bobcats
3. Wizards
4. Cavaliers
5. Kings
6. Blazers
7. Warriors
8. Raptors
9. Pistons
10. Hornets

if Williams was in this draft he'd probably be the second pick again... it makes no sense to move him for another gamble on a rookie.

It's pretty clear that Adelman-Kahn have no interest in trading for another pick, or even in moving up in the draft. In fact, I'll be shocked if they don't trade the 18th pick as part of a deal for a veteran. I look for the Wolves this offseason to add two starters--one through a trade (executed on draft night) and the other through free agency.

I think the Bobcats would think real hard about trading for Derrick.

Personally, I'd be thrilled if we could get a top 10 pick in this year's draft for Williams. Loving the top 12 or so guys this year.

Top 10 would be realistic ... if we have a need that can be filled with confidence, then it would be a no-brainer IMO to move him for any lotto pick.

At the end of the day - I'm hoping we can trade for a veteran starter and add another one through the draft. We need alot, but I'm alos willing to give alot ... my ultimate fear is dumping DW and ending up with Kevin Martin ... this would force me to cancel season tickets on the spot - and I got pretty good seats.

DET or NOH maybe, but those teams would probably prefer centers. Other than that, I don't see a team that would be in love with Williams.

They had this discussion on the trade board about a month ago. There was some consensus for late lottery - somewhere in the 10-14 range. I'd think we'd expect more for him than that.

I would add Sacramento to that list. Although I'm sure SAC would be happy with Barnes or Kidd-Gilchrist, they may look to make a deal if Beal somehow fell to #5. If we offered them DW + 18 (what's been rumored for #2 to get Beal), I could see the Kings going with it since they are stocked at SG and DW would seem to be a nice fit at PF next to Cousins with 18 would give them a choice for depth at some other position. If Beal doesn't fall, I don't think it would make as much sense for either us or them.

Like Saltine said, if DW was in this draft, he'd be the second pick (again). Now, I'm not saying I wouldn't trade DW for a high pick. I'd love to get a SG or a true SF.

I don't think there's anyway he falls to 5. I think he's #2 on the Wiz and Cavs board.

Pull out D-Will's college stats, combine results, and scouting reports.
Now compare those to Robinson's

No training camp, a teeny tiny preseason, a new system in the NBA with players looking to win and an old school coach behind arguably the best PF in the game.....

He might not be #2 on every team's draft board. But I would take D-Will over Robinson and so would plenty of other GMs I bet.

If you don't think so, justify Robinson being a better prospect than Williams. Feel free to use any combine numbers or college stat that suggests he's better than Williams as a long term prospect.

I don't think Robinson deserves to be #2 either.

Me neither. I'm just making an argument that he's the #2 pick because many people consider him a better PF prospect than the guy currently slotted on many mock drafts to be drafted #2.

I've drifted to being a Drummond #2 guy now, so what do I know. I think I take Williams #5 this year personally.

Can we use actual game footage? Because we all had the privilege of watching Williams this year and he wasn't very good. I don't see how Williams is the #2 pick in this draft where if we did a redraft of last year's draft, Williams would be lucky to go top 5.

DW started out pretty darn impressive and all were happy early on ... he didnt end the year strong and I was a strong critic, but he clearly showed some ability - no doubt. Its amazing how rookies are now viewed if they dont meet expectations after the first year. Everything related to any draft is merely hypothetical and lottery ick is a lottery pick ... 1 vs. 5 in a redraft? who the F cares. He's got top 10 value and thats all that is relevant
