To me not all hope is lost. I am about 60/40 on Dwight leaving versus Dwight staying (obviously I want him to stay).
But I feel as though the taste of what he could have in a major city has swayed him. There is a reason why superstars seem to revolve through Chicago, LA, New York, Miami, and kinda Houston. Playing for Brooklyn in their opening season as a young African-American star is an unbelievable opportunity and story, I cannot blame him for letting the temptation get to him.
There is a reason why San Antonio and OKC are sound teams that have great systems and management, and are based around team-first players.
I really hope Hennigan is able to sell Dwight on his vision because if not, Dwight will be the next to get fired. The only way I can see Dwight buying Hennigan's vision is if Hennigan is able to rob a team blind for a top-20 player.
Lack of dialogue since the All-Star Break? He waived his ETO... Someone quoted Hennigan on his "actions speak louder than words"... well there you go. All this talk about Brooklyn... he had all the ability you could have to get to Brooklyn. Are they still a threat? Sure. If they manage to keep D-Will and still manage to keep cap space open, sure, I'll keep em on my radar. But all that side story about being a launch pad to a Brooklyn franchise is just fluff. Dwight's said over and over, he wants to win.
Dwight made a pretty big statement waiving his ETO. He totally screwed the Nets in the process. First, they lose Dwight. Second, it puts them in serious danger to lose D-Will. Third, his about-face at the last minute sent the Nets into a panic and got them to trade their pick as a result of a crappy season that was ONLY TOP 3 PROTECTED, for a couple months with Gerald Wallace. How much more stupid can a front office look with that move? If I'm Dwight, I seriously reconsider how much I want to go to Brooklyn. If he thought Otis was incompetent, how much more stupid can the Nets' Billy King look?
And as for Hennigan's vision and stealing a top 20 player, we should have cap space to sign at least one next offseason.
