(Assuming) I believe Ferry has more freedom or else he probably would have passed on the job.

This is my thinking too, but Sund was also incompetent as a GM and was so passive. So he probably had freedom as well, just didn't utilize it.

I am all with Grim on this one. He might shake it up by kicking the wing and getting old Twan to work a 1-2 year deal for us at 5-6M a year.

In Rick Sunds own words:

My approach coming here, to be clear, is to try to have a value-based identity with good guys that play hard, play together, share the ball [and[ that can be professional on the court.

Sounds like J-Smoove is going bye-bye...playing hard and being professional on the court. Not really Josh's defining characteristics.

Plus most opposing coaches, personnel men don't think that highly of Josh.

I think Ivan does get resigned for sure, but for me Im looking for a major draft day trade that would get us into the top 10

I don't believe they are do a major draft day trade. I feel either Josh or Horford are going to get traded. not sure which one. I am hoping for Horford though.

You have to look at this team and find the guys that fit the profile that Danny Boy is talking about. Horford does fit, but Josh doesn't. JJ might, but not with his contract. Hinrich does, but at what price? And Marvin does as much as I hate to admit it. I have a feeling Josh probably won't be here for long.

He gets a really bad rap since he was with a couple of really bad teams to start his career. He's a solid player, for sure.

He got picked up by Portland in the middle of their playoff chase and averaged 15 ppg and 9 rpg with the Blazers.

He even averaged 17 ppg and 10 rpg per game on 50% shooting as a starter once Lamarcus Aldridge went down.

The kid has ability. Is bigger and stronger than Josh Smith. And has ties to our current GM. He's better offensively and is a better rebounder than Josh Smith, too.

i'd love for this kid to become a Hawk. Starter or backup.

maybe the shake up involves Dwight

Image

if that is the case, then it will have to be Horford going out because Dwight won't stay for Horford.

Josh Smith just doesn't fit the Spurs mold of player that Ferry has become accustomed to in SA.

And going for broke on a player (Dwight) who has never indicated a desire to play for ATL and might skip town after one season doesn't seem a very prudent move either.

Just doesn't fit. Trading Josh for draft picks and cap relief seems like a better long term decision. We are NOT one move from competing for a championship.

Though Dwight, Josh and JJ would be fun to watch. It'd probably cost us the draft pick, AL, Teague and Zaza. That seems a bit much and would leave us with 0 depth.

^ Dwight seems to really care about what fans think of him. Dwight's mom, and church would also have a big influence once he gets use to playing back home.

Hawks had the cheapest bench last year, but ended up having one of the best bench in the NBA by signing alot of vets.

Josh Smith can play multiple positions and knows the playbook inside out.

The Spurs signed Stephen Jackson, who complains on court. Tim Duncan is a big whiner as well, but he's a superstar.

If thats the mold youre going after Ferry, good luck. But while Josh Smith is not a superstar PF and never will be, he breaks the mold and epitomizes hustle defense and brings size and athleticism at SF.

Now you know who wouldnt fit the Spurs mold (running through an aging Duncan)? Lebron.

Lets not speak in generalizations here.

if Ferry tries to go to other teams and copy the Spurs mold and if Kupchak tries to copy the Lakers where ever he goes, then that is just monumentally stupid and Ferry should be fired.

I recently moved to GA(5 years ago) and have attended a few Hawks games, I have to get caught up on this team. I am looking forward to seeing what this new GM will do for the team.
