WT: Budinger for #18

Post#1 » by Trader_Joe » Tue Jun 26, 2012 2:36 pm

The Wolves have acquired Chase Budinger in a trade with the Rockets in exchange for the 18th overall pick, according to sources.

Houston has also included the draft rights to Lior Eliyahu.

The Rockets now own the 14th, 16th and 18th picks in the first round.

Oh no, not Lior Eliyahu!

I am less put off by the value than I am surprised that Minny wasn't setting their sights any higher. I figured they'd more likely package some assets and get a legit starter.

Meanwhile, Houston keeps filling their pockets before going shopping...

Damn, that is NICE for Houston. I know everyone wants them to consolidate assets to get a big name, but I feel like they should try to grab one more pick by trading Lowry (8 from toronto?), and then re-sign Dragic and Lee, find whatever they can for martin, scola, dalembert, and bottom out.

Dragic, Lee, Parsons, 8, 14, 16, 18, that's a CORE, people! They can get multiple good players in this draft.

Chase had a real solid year last year. I wouldn't be surprised if he became a 15ppg scorer in Minny

Yep, a core that may be good enough to lose 4-1 in the first round to the Thunder. I stress MAY be good enough.

Hey, I remember discussing this as a possibile trade at the trade deadline.

Edit here it was: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1162102&p=30490354

Narf said he's good with it, so, win win? Adding the pre-requisite poll as to who won.

It's better than where they are at now. And with Dwight coming off back surgery who knows how effective he will be if they do get him. I don't think there is any chance Dwight would stay in Houston as long as the Nets have enough capspace.

Adelman was with Houston when they picked up Chase. This move doesn't surprise me much. I bet Minnesota knows what they're doing and will do fine here.

Buddinger doesn't seem like a guy you give up assets for IMHO. He's a guy you just sign as a free agent. Or another SG/SF just as good.

Big win for Houston if you ask me. That Houston GM is one good negotiator.

feels like a first step in a move by Houston to trade up. how high do you think Houston could get by moving all three picks? is that enough to get the 2? is Charlotte in such a deep hole that three good players and a fresh start would be better than one top prospect? who else might prefer to hedge their bets with three choices rather than putting all their eggs in one basket?

Won't budinger just have a one year deal in Minny? If Adelman likes him and request for him, they probably wanted someone who they know can perform at NBA level now. though they probably could try to get a little bit more asset. maybe a future 2nd or something.

I think 7th+ asset ? At best it'll be 5th or 6th. Don't think anyone in the 2nd to 6th should drop that much to 14.

The good news is that the Wolves don't do something stupid like draft Terrence Ross. I call that a win.

Budinger is a great shooter, especially from the corner, which is vital in Adelman's offense. Of course we're still without a SG.
