the blazers were never going to resign Wallace, they had always preferred resigning Batum (rightfully so).... and the nets with all their cap could have signed Wallace anyway, no matter how you look at it, it was a terrible move....... the nets with the 6th pick and their cap space could have gotten a much better player on draft day to try and convince dwill to stay

To add to that, Wallace improved them to the 6th pick. No trade for Wallace, Nets may get a top 5 pick.

A top 5 pick, future pick, Rockets future pick, Marshon Brooks for Dwight?

Step 1: Hate the Lakers
Step 2: Watch LeBron go to Miami
Step 3: Call Heat fans, "bandwagoners"
Step 4: Root for Lakers, Hate the Heat
Step 5: Refused to be classified as Laker "bandwagoner" since Heat formed.

as a blazers fan, I'm not seeing why there is so much billy king hate.

If he can get that top 3 pick and flip it with Lopez for Dwight then it's a good move. Risky as **** though. **** me this guy's a gambler.

For once everything might actually work out for the blazers. Now watch them pick a star who has to tragecially retire early due to injury.

Been there, done that. Any other sports tragedies you'd like to see play out that the Blazers have somehow managed to miss?

stop it. please. just stop it.

the #6 pick for 6 weeks of gerald wallace, when you can isntead keep the pick and sign wallace instead is just about as dumb a move as you can make.
Why do you still assume that Wallace would have signed w/o the trade?

because no one else is going to give wallace 4/40+ like the nets will....

at the very least, the nets would have had the same odds of signing wallace had they not traded for him. i mean, what advantage did the nets gain in signing him by trading for him?

- he didnt pick up his player option
- any right we have on him are moot because he wont get max money
- he never played in brooklyn, so either way no taste of it yet
- and in both cases, we'll end up offering him the same amount

if anything, trading for him makes it worse, since there is some leverage on his end knowing that if we dont land him, it looks like even more of a disaster. so we may overpay even more.

You also have to consider the fact that they would have lost more games without Wallace thus giving them a better draft pick.

lol lopez might not even get them the 2-3 pick, and if they dont include lopez, i dont even think the nets have the assets to trade for a 20-30 pick

Oh for sure.. The only reason you take the offer proposed by OP is if you know Deron is walking and you've just stolen the future of a basement dwelling team.

I think this point is moot. We ended up being worse in the standings with Wallace actually. I don't think he really made us better.

You guys wouldn't have won a few close games without him. Thus you would have been a worse standing wise and likely had a top3 pick.

This Nets fan sums it up best...

enetric wrote:Trying to write a plan B is pointless. Because what we think it should be and what it will be are very different things.

If King loses Dwil and he doesnt get fired...you know what he will do. He will overpay ANYONE he can to put a more marketable product on the floor. He will then look at reporters with a straight face and say something like,

"we wanted Deron to be here and we made every effort to resign him. He chose to leave and we have to move on. We are very excited about so and so that other guy and we believe we have put together an exciting team for our first season in Brooklyn. We look forward to the future and we believe this team has the potential to make the playoffs."

Bottom line is, if we lose Deron, King has shown that he is the type of GM who would rather compound the problem by saddling us with bad contracts than going back to a slow rebuild. That isnt his style. Cap management is his absolute weakness.

Face it. King painted us into a hole. He has to keep Deron and he has to somehow get Dwight to be more than a .500 team any time soon. And odds are high he could create a capped out dissaster of a team that is under .500.

We are in a terrible situation where the long shot of Deron/Howard is his only saving grace.

Charlotte is all about getting more first round picks and assets these days, but no way do they trade that 2nd pick unless its down to Clevelands 4th and 24.
