2012 Draft, Part VI (Draft Week is Here!)

Post#381 » by W. Unseld » Wed Jun 27, 2012 4:30 am

I need this to be over. As you can tell from the time of this post I've absolutely bought into the hype & I've been bit by draft fever. I can't freaking concentrate at work & this is not the right economy to have that going on.

But who? Robinson is such a logical fit for CHA that I haven't really thought about which other teams would be interested in him.

Robinson would be a perfect fit in Sac. Perhaps the rumor from Samuels is this scenerio...Namely that Sac takes Robinson to slide next to Cousins and does the Blatche for Garcia swap. We take whomever (MKG or Barnes) that Char doesn't take at 4.

Okay, I could see that.

Bobcats & Cavaliers now re-engaged in talks for the 2nd overall pick. Sources tell me that deal is all but likely to be completed. #NBADraft

Sounds like Cleveland will move up. I'm actually excited to hear this. I've had my doubts about Beal and frankly I think this will force Ernie to take a more created draft day approach. A trade down comes into play (not a major trade down, but possibly to 5 or 6). I also think that if we do stay at #3 and select Barnes or MKG that we will still have a hole at SG that the FO knows will need to be addressed. Maybe then they aggressively shop Singleton and Booker for an extra 1st?

This is my fear as well. Hopefully it will be unfounded. But chances are good that someone out of Beal, Barnes, MKG and Robinson will be a bust type player.

Anything past 5 and we don't get MKG or Barnes. We're stuck with Waiters.

I see a little Calbert, but a better version; not a lesser. Beal actually reminds me of Hayes in that he has a nice looking shot but shot a low % and has not proven he has the ability to create of the dribble and get to the hoop for anything other than floaters or pull ups...

... he said, while at that very moment Ernie Grunfeld decided to take a cold shower after a solid thirty minutes review of Austin Rivers' scouting footage.

I haven't focused much on Sacramento. Are they looking for a big or would they take MKG or Barnes (whoever slips)

If Charlotte wants Robinson...moving to 4 would do the same thing to them that cleveland is doing to us. We will most likely trade the pick to a team that takes trob at 3 to screw Charlotte. Charlotte should stand pat

I heard SAC is heavily considering Lillard. He killed it in the team workout.

typing w/ sleeping baby in lap....

If Sacramento wants up for T-Rob and MKG would be there at 5, I'd love to take Salmon's back instead of Garcia and squeeze them for the Jimmer as our sweetener (this is piggybacking on the Blatche rumors, of course).

Salmon's is owed more money and I'm fine with us throwing some marginal assets in too, but that could work out nicely in a buy-low kind of way. Jimmer as the defacto 2 with Wall on the best guard defensively.

Honestly given that the team would have to make Fredette a significant component of its plans and the pressure his fanbase would exert to emphasize him on the team regardless of his merits I'd almost just rather not have him.

Man the Beal hype is just getting out of control. He's a role player at best. I hope the Cavs trade up in front of us an take him. It would stop us from drafting for need.

Let me get your honest opinion how good do you think Barnes can be?

I think he can be as good as Luol Deng, if not a little better. Yes, his step isn't that explosive, and his handle needs some work, but he does a good job of protecting the ball, and has some moves to create space i.e. stepback jumper. And he has the size to get his jumper off in most situations.

I just don't see any star potential in Beal. What are his standout traits. Yes, he has good mechanics on his jumper and was a highly-touted shooter coming in as a Fr, and while I do think he'll be a good shooter, I'm just not sold on his shot, especially since the NBA line is farther. His handle is solid, not great. He's not very shifty w/ the ball. He's more of a simple/straight-line driver that takes what he can get. He lacks an explosive 1st step, and I have questions at whether he'll be able to finish at the rim at a good rate in the pros. Yes, he's a very good rebounder, but that's not a main skill I look for in a SG. He'll be a solid player, but not a star. The Wizards need a star player.
