Ford's Mock Draft

Analysis: Someone isn't going to be very happy and it might be Barnes. Not only does he really not want to go to Sacramento, but it's possible the Kings trade this pick and he slides down even further. We think the stopping point is Golden State at No. 7, but don't be so sure (see Warriors comment below). I doubt he would slide past Toronto, though. The Raptors love, love, love Barnes at No. 8.

Don't have insider, but I thought this was already pretty well known.

BC's list looks like: Barnes, Drummond, Waiters/Lillard I believe (in that order)

I don't know why this is even news. He's the only guy expected to go top 5 that we worked out.

Not really a fan but prefer him to Rivers, Waiters or any other one-mediocre-way prospect. Would never part with another asset to move up for him, but I could deal with him at #8 if DC manages to nix the iso garbage.

If we're talking about limiting him facing up on the wing for an iso, then yeah. But Barnes is a pretty good post-up scorer shooting 37.1% on such plays. With his size, he should further develop his back-to-the-basket game and work on his passing. He won't be LeBron with his outstanding court-vision, but I think he can develop into a similar role like LeBron this year playing for the Heat working his offense inside-outside.

But what's surprising to me is that Barnes was equally the same of an isolation scorer as Austin Rivers, Jeremy Lamb and Dion Waiters who are all known for their iso skills. Barnes produced .821 points per play. Lamb scored .747 ppp, Rivers scored .824 ppp and Waiters scored .839 ppp. He's pretty much around the same level as those guys, so he's certainly not that bad of an iso scorer when those other 3 prospects are respected for their breakdown abilities and shot creating abilities.

I think Nash would make him look pretty good. I'm not super high on him otherwise.

I think the chance of Barnes at least being a very solid starting SF are high and that's why I'd like to acquire him. I see little "bust" chance on him.

Yea I see Barnes as a being a very solid player. I don't see much upside but I also don't see him being anything below a good starter.

I can't really put much faith into NCAA advanced metrics, particularly in Barnes' iso case where he most always had a size advantage and was going to get his shot off. Watching games it was like, "THAT's not going to fly in the NBA, THAT's not going to fly..." and then there were the no-Marshall games. I thought he typically looked clumsier with each dribble and made some poor turnovers, he lead his team in ball-handling TOs if I remember correctly, which is obviously an advanced metric but it supported my eye. The jab-step moves are decent but NBA 3s are really big and quick.

I think that Barnes could eventually be a nice catch/shoot threat and potentially a 2-way player but wanting to be MJ could really derail his career. It drives me nuts when players can't identify/accept their best skills. He could be like a reverse Antoine Walker. No ego? Battier.

In order for barnes to become an allstar, he'll have to develope elite footwork, which is possible. somewhat like a dirk, or paull pierce...
seems like a smart player, and would be for me an ideal sf for this team

To be a perennial allstar, Barnes will definitely have to develop elite footwork. That said, to be a marginal allstar, I don't really think he's got that far to go. I could definitely see him as a guy who averages 20/6/2 on decent %s with solid defense for a decent team. Those are definitely the kinds of numbers that get an SF into an allstar game or two throughout their career depending on injuries or weakness at their position in their conference or a year or two where their team is a top 3 team in the conference.
