Right here, he easily could have said "no, not until I meet with Dwight will we determine his future" and killed all speculation around a draft day deal. I find that questionable.

But it would've also killed any bidding war that teams who are making packages for Dwight may or may not be building. Even if he's confident we can keep Dwight, why burn the bridge on your escape plan?
