I thought the coaches only chose pitchers and players from unrepresented teams?

The voting this year is messed up. Mitch Moreland is a top 5 in 1st basemen for the AL in voting?, Ibanez ahead of Dunn and Edwin. Thats total BS!

i dont get how he goes from breaking the record for votes to being third at your position. granted he started historically last year and a little slow this year, but hes now on pace for more homers than last year

Not just this year, every year, but that's the beauty of it in my opinion, the all star games in theory is about the fans, not the players, so when you ask people to vote in something like this they are going to choose who they want to see (which is why the AL team will always be full of yankees and sox), not who is most deserving, that is presummably taken care of by the coaches. I can see why some people don't like the idea of a popularity contest, but if that's what the fans want and they make this game happen, then why not?

Because the result of the game determines home-field advantage in the WS. You cant have it both ways: its either a fun game in which the fans can homer it up and select their favourite big-market players or its a serious match in which the most deserving players should be selected based on their performance.

All-Star is a joke anyway. What was supposed to be a game played by the best players lost all of its meanings.

I'm a fan of WAR, but I'm extremely sceptical about advanced defensive metrics. I'm no expert but I think Lawrie's insane UZR/150 and DRS numbers can be attributed to shifts. Obviously he has great range, but I'm not sure if his defence is so good that it makes up for his decent but unspectacular offensive numbers.

I mean, according to fangraphs, Lawrie has 31 Defensive Runs Saved. The next most???

Moustakas with SEVEN!!!!!

That just doesn't seem right.
