Of course Wes Johnson had the Lakers game his rookie year where he looked legit, and look at him now. I think that DWill is better than that though.

You hardly have to be Thabeet-like to not warrant the #2 overall pick in a trade. I still think we could get a lotto pick for him.

DW will be (at a minimum) an 18 and 8 player within the next 2 seasons ... is that #2 material? - I dont know. The legit questions come around his ability to match up defensively and that's where he get to decide his own fate IMO. He's an easy loto pick if we have someone we really like in the draft ... but after #1, merely a bunch of 2-3 year projects.

I don't think he'll get the playing time here to become an 18 and 8 player. Can he transform into a SF? Maybe, but I don't think he can transform into a SF that fits well into the corner offense.

He will probably be starter next year at SF from the news we just found out

I want to trade Derrick because I think that's the price MN has to pay for an Iggy caliber player.

I'm looking ahead to see who the top teams will be in the NBA, and how we match up. I don't see Derrick Williams ever being able to be laterally fast enough to stop anybody quick at SF. I think we might end up with a more offensively-competent version of Beasley if he sticks around. I'd rather have a guy like Iggy, and then add a defense oriented SF/PF as a small ball PF.

I would still like to build a championship caliber team, and I'm not sure if Derrick Williams and Kevin Love and co-exist on a championship caliber team. I'm not writing Derrick Williams off, I just think he'll never reach his peak on a team like the Wolves'.

I'm guilty of creating several Williams' trades in the past, but only for fun. I'd be very happy to see Williams on the roster next season.

Simply by not trading him for expensive veterans who seem to always be on the trading block, Minnesota keeps the roughly $10 million in cap space (assuming Milicic stays). In addition to the cap space preserved, the team would still possess a sophomore who created his own goal to weigh in at 225. Is that really a gamble to keep someone who is so committed to improving?
