Ross actually slightly outproduced Jones at a younger age in college, but I think they have similar skillsets. He brings athleticism, shooting, and defense, but is lacking in the areas of getting to the basket and creating for others. As a floor spacing athlete on a fast paced team (that wants to defend), I think he's a good fit. But I'd agree I don't see any star ceiling.
I haven't seen a lot of Ross, but from what I have read about him he sounds like the type of wing that I really like. A guy who can knock down open shots and is more than willing to be a very good defensive player.
I'd rather have guys like that and pay them 6-8 million a year than have a guy like Rudy Gay or Danny Granger and pay them 12-16 million a year. You obviously need stars and Gay/Granger are the second tier type of guys... but you aren't going anywhere with them as your main perimeter threat anyways.
If you can space the floor and create a little bit of your own offense, while being a good/great defender... then IMO, you are insanely valuable at the 2/3.
