okc looking to trade up to beal???!!!
http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/22 ... p_For_Beal
I'M TRULY STUNNED. i don't see the sense of it. ""I've heard it a lot," Beal said of the Thunder scenario. "It's really interesting. I would love to play with Kevin Durant. (Russell) Westbrook, great point guard."
no mention of playing with james.

Re: okc looking to trade up to beal???!!!
This team isn't rebuilding anymore.
Harden now >>>>>>>> Beal now. Team is in win now mode, you go with the better player and that's Harden by far.
They're just doing this to avoid adding another max/near max salary, which is pointless since they're going to trade Beal again when he's up for an extension in 3 seasons.
If they want a third scorer alongside KD & Russ, they're going to have to pay him. Might as well do it with a proven guy in James.

Agree 100% with ratherunique. OKC will be in the same problem down the road.
Beal is a great prospect but he is no where near proven right now. I rather see OKC try to get a higher 1st round pick to get someone like Sullinger, who could fit a need and could also give them more options in the long run.

Wiff would be so pleased if Presti traded Harden for Beal!
Trading Harden would seem to contradict everything Presti has been building toward for the last 5 years, but without knowing his exact plan, trying to decipher his intent is just speculation.
I've been having some thoughts that the Thunder could probably contend without either one of Harden or Ibaka, but I still value Harden as the more talented player and don't see the sense in shedding talent unless it's for fit and Beal doesn't seem to address fit.

I don't feel like Harden will be included. Just a hunch. This could be a new plan to move James and Durant over to the 3/4 eventually. Especially since some of our best line up involve Harden/Durant at the 3/4. I think this deal is structured around Ibaka, if anything but it doesn't make sense for Charlotte.

When Presti first started researching Beal it wouldn't have taken the #2 to get him. The original target might have been #5 and Sacramento?
Or it is Harden and Rob Hennigan was the real genius behind Presti and Presti now has the freedom to exercise his Otis Smith decision making.

Re: okc looking to trade up to beal???!!!
From a talent perspective sure Harden today is the better player than Beal. Someone want to tell me where OKC stands on market size compared to the rest of the league?
Oh ya dead last which means less revenue overall in TV deals, jersey sales, there are a lot more revenue streams than 41 home games. Like it or not this is what it's like to be a small market NBA team. In order to survive long term OKC needs to buy low sell high.
James is fun to watch and he seems like a decent guy but this would be a very smart business move.
After all it's a business. That's why the Thunder are in OKC to begin with shrewd businessmen. One of which is well on his way to being broke. And at this moment I haven't heard that "HH" has actually purchased a share of the team yet.
I disagree about putting off the inevitable with having to be in a situation with 3 guys on a max contract. Sure all 1st round rookie deals are guaranteed for 3yrs. Then the team can option the player for an additional 2yrs if they want. If Beal were to receive a max deal it wouldn't be until Durant's contract expires. And if OKC re-signs Durant and Beal looks like he should get a max deal you deal with that down the road. This would be a smart move setting up the salary cap in a workable order.
Sorry guys but this just makes too much business sense. By the way you know I mentioned this like over a month ago right? Even before Harden's finals melt down.
But looks like Beal is the consensus #2 and the Bobcats have the #2. And who is their GM? Rich Cho former Thunder employee.

I just don't see it. Beal will probably have a first year similar to Harden, and won't be able to contribute until his third year, and then IF Beal manages to be as good as Harden we'll be in the exact same position we are in now. Beal is no where near as good at the PnR and his shooting isn't good enough to make up for that.

You're right and he will be like 10mil cheaper.

Re: okc looking to trade up to beal???!!!
The only way I would do this deal is if Charlotte included that Detroit pick they just picked up.
Harden is what Beal is suppose to turn into
But he is no guarantee
The Thunder are taking all the risk
While the Bobcats get their guaranteed franchise player
Those don't come easy

Charlotte probably wouldn't do it, however, Washington or Cleveland probably would.

Wrong. Rookie contract is only guaranteed for 2 years, with 2 team options in the next 2 years and then you tender him & qualifying offer which gives you the right to match any offer sheets that he signs. So after year 4 he's a restricted FA. Look at Kyrie Irving's contract on hoopshype.com. Hell, look at Reggie Jackson's contract.
So, he's off his rookie deal 1 year before Durant expires.
So, again, you're going to have KD @ 21 mil, Westbrook at similar $, and role players and then you have this guy coming up for a near max extension & OKC is right back where they are right now.
And they better hope that this unproven player is good enough to warrant a near max deal down the road if they make this trade.
It's highly unlikely that he'll be close to Harden in his rookie season (17 pts, 49% shooting, best facilitator on the team, 4th in PER for SGs behind 3 HOFers Wade Bryant & Manu). So OKC takes a step back next year at least, at a time where they're competing for championships.

Re: okc looking to trade up to beal???!!!
Could the offer be Beal and Tyrus Thomas for Maynor, Aldrich, Jackson, Cook, #28, and a couple first round picks.
Charlotte is in no rush to win. Adding these 4 players would help change the attitude in the Cat's locker room.
Aldrich/ Mullens
Biyombo/ White
Henderson/ Cook
Walker/ Gordon
Maynor/ Jackson
Talk about Thunder East or JV Thunder.

This surely has to be a joke.

I can only imagine your disappointment that Harden is still with the Thunder.
Presti: "James Harden is a coveted player. But I don't think anyone covets him as much as we do".
