My guess is he's giving up on trading for a star player and is trying to package his picks to move up in this draft. Worst comes to worst he ends up with Meyers Leonard.

Re: OT: Morey doin work
does anybody have an opinion on the Melo trade? Was the team better after the trade or beforehand?
If possible, provide lengthy analysis for your viewpoint. I am very curious how people view that trade, particularly the mods of this forum.

So it looks like the Magic have no interest in the Rockets' offer. What a shocker.

Re: OT: Morey doin work
The Kings and Rockets have intensified their trade discussions centered around the No. 5 pick, according to sources.
Sacramento wants to wait to see if Thomas Robinson is on the board before a deal is consummated.
Houston is offering Kyle Lowry and multiple picks as they own the 12th, 16th and 18th selections.

Re: OT: Morey doin work
I think for me personally it's not who the Knicks acquire or sign (other than STAT) but more so in what leads up to us doing so.
We can take this all the way back to the start of the LeBron chasing:
• We gave up Jamal Crawford and Zach Randolph for what? Cap space? OK. Why could we not throw in Jeffries with one of those guys? Moving on.
• The following year we trade this year’s first round pick along with the option to have swapped last year’s pick and our lotto pick that year in Jordan Hill in order to get rid of Jarred Jeffries' soon to be expiring contract. This was all to go after James because we needed the cap space for a second max right? OK. Moving on.
• The summer of 2010 we strike out LeBron so we hand Amare an uninsured $100 million dollar contract along with some other moves (Felton, Mozgov). We trade David Lee(and I can't stand Lee) to the Warriors for Anthony Randolph, an injured Kellena Azibuke and an injury prone Ronny Turiaf.
• Now we have our sights set on Melo. Cool, I like Melo. We go through an entire year of the “Melo” drama only to trade half our team and a bunch of future picks to Denver and Minnesota to get Melo, Billups, Brewer, Carter, Balkman and whoever else. OK, at least this is done with and we can all move on.
• We then turn around and release Brewer for nothing.
• We make the playoffs only to get swept in the first round. Injuries? Ok, I'll give you that. Moving on.
• We draft Shumpert with our first round pick. A defensive minded wing player. Sounds like Brewer to me. Moving on.
• We pick up Billups option going into the lockout. Why? Only to turn around and use the amnesty clause on him so we can trade for Tyson Chandler (who's my favorite Knick) and pay him $14 million dollars a year? While also trading a second round pick, cash, Ronny Turiaf and Andy Rautins to make it happen. But we still had Amare on the books with that uninsured contract, who was also was coming off of an injury riddled latter half of the season. This move also leaves us without a PG going into the season. Moving on.
• Tony Douglas stinks up the place this season. This leads to moves for a PG(Jeremy Lin) off waivers. Solid move. So why do we turn around and pick up Tony’s contract? Now we don’t truly have our full MLE because we must pay Lin (in his small sample size, and is coming off of an injury) and Novak (who’s a shooter…nothing more or less).
But we have holes and so many questions to answer on if we have the pieces to surround Melo (who we cashed in our assets for) with to compete for a championship. We have the “star”, now what? That’s my problem with the team. It’s not always what we do, but how we do it. We never seem to plan ahead and we continuously trip on our way to things we may actually need, thus wasting more time, assets, and money along the way while never becoming true contenders.
A lot of people/posters also seem to forget a lot of us were just too young to remember the glory days of Ewing. Our most prominent memories started in the Layden era.

If we didn't have the flexibility he's describing how did we end up with Chandler, Amar'e and Melo?
And explain to me how the team is suffering? These guys are here for next season and two years after that and that's it. We still have a 1st rounder in 2014.. we got the rights for Jeremy Lin for nothing a PLAYER MOREY HAD!!!! And didn't want. I don't see the suffering..
Wow. Ok.
First of all, we're stuck with Amar'e because no other team in the league will have him. That's just a sad fact. Secondly, we're about to be in litigation with the league because of how absolutely rail-thin our margins are under the salary cap. Third, we're forced to invent depth through some kind of MacGuyver like process of duct tape, chop sticks, and saw dust. And finally, we're about to enter a draft with no draft pick. And it's not the last time that'll happen.
The Knicks are not just completely capped out, but also lack the kind of real assets to make a significant move or add reliable depth. I'm not saying Walsh and Grunwald haven't been miracle workers with the moves they've made. But that doesn't change the fact New York hasn't had any kind of clean slate in well over two decades.
I've been on record on this board (ad nauseum) saying that Amar'e is a crap fit next to Melo. I'm still pissed off that things went so badly pre-2010 that Walsh was desperate enough to give Amar'e that ridiculous contract in the first place. Now we're paying for it.
Granted, the Tyson Chandler and Jeremy Lin signings were f*king brilliant. But they were brilliant precisely because they were made out of desperate necessity caused by -- ready for it? -- lack of flexibility.
Again, I think it's preposterous that I have to apologize for being upset at the past and -- yes -- present ramifications of decades of mismanagement.
Oh dear lord... seriously?
Who cares if no other team wants Stat? Why not just let him regain his form again.. here? What's sad about it? So he's here for two seasons and then he's one of those "precious" expiring contracts... hardly suffering.
Highly doubt this litigation you speak of ever happens.
All of the good teams are duct taping together their rosters... but we're actually getting lucky in the process. We possess one of the most valuable ASSETS in the league for the foreseeable future.
We had a 1st rounder last year and it was a guy who showed he can play in the league. And we have a 1st round pick next year. nThe first rounder we traded this year is the one that got us over the hump for 2010 you know it gave us flexibility.
I'm just going to file you into the "never satisfied" category.
I'm just not seeing where the team isn't in the best shape it's been in in years.
The litigation? Yeah right.

I'm okay asking him.
I haven't posted for months.
Yet this "debate" rages on.
Reasonable conclusion is those continually involved in the same argument perpetually use baiting tactics to get into the same cycle again and again.
You're bringing most everything and anything that happens in the NBA back to what the Knicks gave up for Melo (identified by more than one poster here, and I'm sure all the time) could arguably be labeled as such.
I'm more than open to hearing a second opinion on that matter.
