Heat trade #27 pick

Future pick is lottery protected the whole time. If Philly is in the lottery for 3 years we get two 2nd round picks in 2015 and 2016

Re: Heat trade #27 pick
I don't like the trade unless there is very little protection on the Philly pick.
There were some guys who fell to us this year who we could have used.
We should have been trading future picks for more picks this year.
Money move, Arison wants more to stay in his pocket. Doesn't help us cap wise.

Like someone said on the draft thread, there are possibly saving some money for runs at FA.

I would of liked Perry Jones. The dude has skills and OKC got a steal. But I'm sure we could use that pick in an upcoming trade.

I think Perry Jones would've been a great pick at 27. He'd fit right in with the small ball line-ups. I really don't think they'll find a better talent at the very end of the draft like that again.
I get the money aspect and all but the guy would've been making Norris Cole money for lottery talent.

I knew Riley wouldn't take a gamble on Jones. It has to be better than having Eddy Curry collect dust on your bench. Considering that we just won it all and chances are that we'll attract some valuable ring chasers, I don't get why Riley wouldn't take the risk.

Doesn't make any sense.
We have the exact same amount to offer now as we would if we didn't trade the pick.
This just gives Arison more money.

if it makes sense to Riley, it's ok by me. I think Arison has shown his willingness to invest in the Heat.

Didn't his company lose like 100 million recently? What's a few million. Hopefully they pony up the money for a decent F/A.

Re: Heat trade #27 pick
Hope Micky realizes that quality rookie-scale players are some of the best value in the game. I'd have more faith if we didn't have such a spotty draft record in general. Most dispiriting thing is we're doing this kind of penny-pinching directly after winning a championship.
According to most mocks, both Moultrie and PJ3 were late lottery/mid-first talents in a stacked draft. Moultrie was a 6'11, 16ppg, 10.5rpg major-conference player -- totally something our undersized team couldn't use right now. PJ3 had the potential to be an absolute steal if we got his head on right with the right teammates. OKC didn't have a problem with scooping him up.
What's the best with a late-lotto pick from Philly in a weaker draft 5 years from now? Probably a lesser-caliber player than one we could've taken tonight and helped us immediately.
Two potential steals fall in draft -- one contender dismisses it, another contender (with terrific draft record) jumps on it. Could make a difference in such evenly-matched battles

I don't think Riley WANTED to do the trade but was given pressure from above to save some money.
Of all of the "big money" teams Arison has been one of the least willing to spend above and beyond.
Nowhere near Dolan/Cuban/Buss/Devos/Allen

Don't even care. Flash in the pan rookies probably won't put this team over the top anyway.

Stupid. Should have taken the chance on PJ3 or kept Moultrie.

I wouldn't mind if we get a top ten protected pick at least.
