Pick is lottery protected the whole time. If Philly is in the lottery for 3 years we get two 2nd round picks in 2015 and 2016

Philly will likely be a 7-8 seed playoff team in the next 3 years, which means a pick about 10-13 spots better than what the Heat gave up. Much better odds of getting a player who can help this team.

Moultrie would give us the ability to post up. He or Jones would have added to our versatility. Think moultrie, Bosh, Battier! Wade and Chalmers when Lebron rests. Rebounder and shot maker.

Pat says it wasn't about the luxury tax.... well if it wasn't, it made no sense, talent wise Moultrie >>> Dirk Hamilton

I think it was just trying to have better trade pieces in the future when we have no 1st round pick...

I Hope Riley has a trade planed using PHI pick, cause Arnett would have fit what we need. A borderline lotto pick, & we trade it? HUH? :-?

we traded it for a real lottery pick I believe, protected. I didn't really read up on it.

But damn... PJ3 to OKC <_<

I guess they don't want to develop more rookies? While trying to go for a title... I don't know.

Cole and Pittman don't count because they just won a ring with us lol.

Meh... w/e, I trust Riley.

You all make me laugh.

Moultrie was the player we needed

PJ3 will be a killer

They're both just a couple of rookies who weren't even seen as worth a top 20 pick. No great loss.

We will build through FA.

We want to try and get far better players than the "potential" you all dream about for the vet min.

Every year you get over excited about some rookie. There are still the Varnado groupies on here.

There are literally 100's of undrafted/european players of that quality and better if we want them, but why would we?

get over yourselves.

Yeah I'd like to know that as well.

(So I can send them a box of chocolate and some roses. Good job whoever did it! HA!)

Ended up knowing Heat would get someone I'd be thinking WHO? Heat aren't that good at developing rookies anyways.

I wanted Doron Lamb in the 1st Round but oh well
http://content.usatoday.com/communities ... -2hmnDYc7A

42. Milwaukee Bucks: Kentucky guard Doron Lamb

Lamb easily was the best player available at this point, as we think he should have come off the board about 15 spots ago. He's an outstanding shooter with a very smooth game, and he can handle a small role right away and ease into a bigger one. He's the fifth Wildcat off the board. Grade: A

Riley said the goal is to find players who create space for the Big 3. So shooters may apply.

Chris Tomasson ‏@christomasson
Pat Riley: “We don’t play small ball. If Chris is playing center, we have a legitimate power forward and that’s LeBron James.’’

Ethan J. Skolnick ‏@EthanJSkolnick
Riley says the Heat will guarantee Dexter Pittman's contract for next year. "We expect this summer improvement."

Sounds like Chris Bosh is our center for the future...and I thought LeBron James said he was not ready to play PF yet...

battier will play inside on defense and outside on defense. the 5 nominal positions make less and less sense in today's nba. our point guard doesn't organize the offense, our shooting guard doesn't shoot, our small forward is bigger than almost all the power forwards, our power forward never posts up and our center shoots 3s.

Everything you need to know about our draft decisions is in this quotes.

To sum it up : We didnt find any players our staff belived in at #27, none of them would have played here or upgrade us in any way. let's brake it down :

We're getting an IN SHAPE Dexter next year > Festus Ezeli (the stats back that up)
We're geting Ray Allen for shooting > Doron Lamb (no explanation needed)
We're adding Jarvis Varnado after he improved in europe > Arnett Moultrie
Perry Jones was passed on by the entire NBA for a reason, trust me. plus the knee issue..dont need.
WE DID GET a big Center with a WET jumper that can possibly spread the floor and take up space. we dont need much more than that. if we dont like him in training camp he's gone.

Pat and his crew just won us a championship, relax guys..give the man a little credit, he probably knows a little more then the avrerage hysteric keyboard warriors around an internet forum...

But some drafts had this guy as low as 13, with most just outside the lotto. This remindes me of Macus Thorton all over again.

this pick is good for the Heat's future, either drafting a player (maybe around #18) or using it in a trade. Good move....

I was super excited for Moultrie and actually had him pegged as our pick when he dropped that far. He plays the same kind of game Bosh does, and after a couple years of seasoning with a team full of wonderful mentors, he'd probably be darn good.

However, we opted out, and drafted a guy who can obviously shoot the ball, and has the size we desperately need. I'm eager to see what he has in store for us.

Here's to hoping we doing become the next Detroit Pistons or Phoenix Suns - two teams which drafted poorly following periods of success

I'm fine with this trade, there is a good chance phily ends up beng the #8 seed again. All the playoff teams in the west are bound to have a better recond than our 7/8 seed, so our pick would be 15-16, more than 10 spots higher than it was this year.

From the quotes and what I've seen from our writers it sounds like this guy will never be in a Heat/NBA uniform

I'd like to see him get a chance in summer league. You never know.

BTW, did anybody call Norris Cole last season?
