With the pending sale, I doubt any big trade will occur

good point. they aren't going to rock the boat when a guy is about to spend $400 million. if you trade out huge part of the package then the buyer is going to head straight for the exit

Memphis passed on a chance to acquire Houston small forward Chase Budinger, who was traded to Minnesota in exchange for the 18th pick in tonight's draft. :banghead:

Definitely still hurting from that. instead we go with Demarre Carroll and Sam Young. 2 wasted picks... and passed on both Budinger and Dejuan Blair..

we also passed on rookie of the year candidate Isaiah Thomas who fell all the way to 60 last year. Instead we went with Selby who I still think could have potential. but it's ironic since we're still talking about a backup PG ever since we let go Earl Watson

Give me PJ3 at #25.

Dude is no.2 talent wise, there is just a bust risk because he didn't dominate.

We can afford to miss on this pick though.

Wroten is going to be the pick.

I actually really like this pick. Just not as much with Jones and Moultrie on the board.

But apparently this was Chris Wallace's pick, which makes me feel exponentially better about it.

I'm banging my head into a wall. Wroten is not an NBA point guard at this point. Doron Lamb is a surefire rotation shooter. Fills a need and may be the best player outside of maybe Perry Jones.

I really hope so. At the very least, trade for a second round pick to keep us entertained. Some good value there.

This pick had Demarre Carroll written all over it. The guy came in and wowed the front office guys. He became their focus. Then, when others fell that were better picks, tunnel vision kicked in and instead of picking the best available player, they picked what had become "their guy".

Wrote would be fine if he were the best available pick at the time he was selected. He wasn't.

Wroten would be fine if the Grizz were good at quickly developing talent. They're not.

Wroten would be fine if he had a good outside shot that could stretch the floor for our bigs. He doesn't.

Wroten would be fine if the Grizz were loaded with shooters that he could drive and penetrate or kick out to. They don't.

Wroten might even be okay if Hollins had patience with our young players. He doesn't.

Wroten would have been a fine if they had moved into the second round to pick up a need or two to augment the pick. They didn't.

Bottom line, the 2012-2013 squad, on paper, will be a regression from last season. OJ and Speights will be gone. Arthur may or may not be here. There's no cap space to bring in enough quality vets to overcome the loss in the rotation of OJ and Speights AND move forward. Even though it was the 25th pick, with the way things played out last night there was a real chance to take a player that would help immediately. Instead, once again, the Grizz picked up the pipe and inhaled a boatload of "Strotential".

Is their really no chance your FO signs Mayo? What is he asking for $ wise?

With the new punitive tax situation there is zero chance that the Grizz retain Mayo. In fact, it's very likely they don't even extend him the QO. The issue is that not only do the Grizz not want to pay any tax dollars, their current business model insists on getting a rebate check back from the league for being under the cap.

Damn looks like you were right he is a UFA, one of the best out there IMO.

What stings me the most is that it is the Thunder who landed PJ3.

Should have picked up a shooter to replace Mayo. Wroten makes little sense for Memphis. He also plays a terrible and frustrating brand of basketball (think poor man's Tyreke Evans).

The Grizzlies take Selby last year and Wroten this year. Seems to me that they really like to gamble on guys with great high school resumes and underwhelming college years. Mayo, Henry, Selby, Wroten...

I wonder if it's legal for them to outsource their drafting to another team's draft selection committee. They have made only 2 or 3 good picks in all 10 years in Memphis.

Wroten can be good. But I thought that PJ3 was the no.2 talent in the draft. He just was a terrible fit at Baylor with their weak 1-3-1 and their somewhat selfish guard rotation.
