Great. He went undrafted. Now us that cash from Indiana to sign Machado now.

Jason Jones @mr_jasonjones
Petrie said Kings sold 2nd round pick to keep flexibility with the roster for future moves.
16m Jason Jones @mr_jasonjones
Kings figured Thomas Robinson would go second. Elated he fell to them.

Past few years Kings have promised moves, spending money. We shall see.

Or really, Tyreke has a lot of improving to do. Marcus really isn't. He's just a good scorer.
Which is why he's a good 2nd fiddle to Cousins plus we've already seen they play very well off of one another. TRob might be a great 3rd fiddle, but will he have that opportunity is the question. If Tyreke has to take a step back you are much better off moving him. Teams will forget about him as a trade asset quick, but it'll be funny how fast he'll jog their memory when he hits the free agency market.
No I mean he's a good scorer--not a great scorer. He's just a very nice one-- more ideal as a 6th man. If he's your second option, you're not going anywhere.
Cousins could be that great scorer. Marcus is a much better scorer than you give him credit for and he really improved his driving ability last year. If Peja Stojakovic can be a teams second option, so can Marcus Thornton. Depends on what kind of team you have, and this team with either Evans or Robinson might have a 3rd fiddle that can close that gap, if there is one.

Petrie has also mention shooting and interior defense as priorities. Don't know how much of it is spending money moreso than spending money, and using the players you spent the money on in the right way.

See, no. That's the difference. I mean in a way, it isn't though. Like, in theory, Peja worked as a second option because he was one of the greatest shooters ever. Marcus isn't one of the greatest shooters ever. There therefore isn't a way to use him in which he's that unstoppable.
Now, in practice, Peja really didn't work as a second option because he was a pussy. If you want to talk 02 teams, that was maybe part of the problem. Bibby was the second option when it came to be playoff time, but let's be real. He wouldn't have done so well had he been going up against a strong defensive PG. It's no coincidence that he didn't stand out against (even a late 30's) John Stockton whereas he routinely killed Nash and Fisher.
What I'm saying is that Marcus Thornton isn't as good as Dwyane Wade, Pau Gasol, or Kevin Garnett. You could try to make the argument for Jason Terry, but I'd argue that that was a circumstance that would be hard to repeat. That would require Cuz becoming as unstoppable as Dirk was last year. I think he does have that potential, but that's a really tall order, and I don't think it's something you can rely on.
My main point is that Marcus Thornton is a very nice player who I very much like having on the team. But he's not a building block just like Jason Terry isn't a building block for Dallas (if he were, they wouldn't be so nonchalant about him being on the verge of leaving). In order to be a franchise building block, you either need to be a great scorer/playmaker, or you need to be a dominant scorer (or a defensive game changer, but that's hardly relevant here). Marcus is a very good scorer, but sweet lord, he's not close to dominant, and he never will be.

Thornton doesn't have to be the greatest shooter ever because he brings intangibles like clutch play, hustle rebounding, and the ability to get to the basket.
And what are you talking about with Jason Terry, they don't have him, they don't win a ring. They are mid stage rebuilding now, when they were trying to win they sure did seem to want him back.

Yeah. He's a nice player. But he's no superstar. Superstars don't score with his inefficiency unless they're also strong playmakers. He's not a franchise building block. He's just a nice scorer.
