Google "Jeff Fosters college stats" and it comes up as Texas State. Regardless of what little podunk school Foster went to, I was mad when we traded Vonteego Cummings for him.

So Texas State used to be called Southwest Texas State University when Foster went there? That's way different than your comparison of IPFW and ISU because these Universities have no affiliation. From your quote Texas State and Southwest Texas State is the same college, that had a name change. Your analogy is invalid.

Just because Plumlee went to Duke means nothing. I'm not ususally too hung up on stats, but I am having a difficult time with 6 pts & 7 rbs. My fear is that if he can't crack the lineup at Duke, how is he going to do it for a contender in the NBA?

No, Southwest Texas State is now Texas State - San Marco. Saying that that is Texas State is like saying Indiana University and IUP or IPFW are the same school. That's probably a better analogy. Same school system, different locations, and as such, much different levels of competition.


Either way, Jeff Foster went to the most podunk of podunk schools.

I give Islander a thumbs up, because I think he raised a number of very good points.

I know I am in the minority, but I like the pick. The Pacers wanted a blue-collar role player for the frontcourt, and they got the guy who they thought has the best potential to fill this role. If they liked him better than Moultrie, I trust their judgment. I also think Perry Jones is going to be a Jon Bender, not a Kevin Durant, so I'm fine with passing with him too. Jones didn't even put up big numbers in high school, let alone college. I've watched him play for two years now at Baylor--he was just like Bender, a few flashes of brilliance but for the most part he had a disappointingly small impact on games. What makes people think that is going to change once he gets to the toughest basketball league in the world?

Plumlee has a lower ceiling but a higher floor than the guys I was hoping to take. I was really bummed at the time but now that I've seen all the video comments on pacers.com I'm comfortable that they got who they wanted. I was hoping for a Dale Davis but if we got a Jeff Foster who can be a solid rotation player for a decade, it's hard to complain.

Perry Jones is worse than Jonathan Bender. He doesn't play defense. He doesn't compete. Pacers don't need that kind of player. Pacers need a guy who will contribute something in the rotation.

No, he wasn't a superstar, but he was a 13 year cog that was vital to the success of his team. He was one of the best defensive big men for almost a decade, and one of the best rebounders in the NBA.

If you don't think every team would LOVE to have a Jeff Foster, you're kidding yourself.

A player like Foster would have righted some wrongs in that Miami series. Just look at his impact in the Chicago series last season. In limited minutes he totally inspired the rest of the team to fight like hell.

He was a player that could perform his duty night in and night out. His post defense was just as gnarly as DDavis, and he was actually a better rebounder.

About 2-3 years ago I got called out on here for calling Feisty a local legend. Today I only feel stronger that he has a free pass in Indy for the rest of his life.

Sorry if I can't put Plumlee on his level just yet. Unfortunately, comparing him to Foster is like comparing Luck to Manning, which the Colts were smart enough not to do.

I saw a video of him where he had to duck his head or it would have come very close to the ring.
To me, that was impressive.

I love the fact that he is very athletic and that he seems to be pretty intelligent when he talks. That combination is very hard to find in a big man's body. Sure, he is old, but at this point of time I rather have a guy who can contribute right away than another project that needs years to develop into something useful. Those talented players picked behind him, dropped so low for a reason. They might turn into something special, but most teams seem to think it is unlikely.

If Plumplepee will have the same impact on games as Jeff Foster had, I will be more than happy.

Fans boo picks like Plumlee because they see white and automatically think he's not athletic. Yet in the vertical leap and agility testing Plumlee tested as the most athletic big man in the history of the NBA combine. Wow. That is significant and standing over 6'11" in shoes, it becomes even more significant. In the agility drill, he was able to move faster from spot to spot than 90% of the guards and forwards.

The challenge to the coaching staff will be to bring out the best of Plumlee in game situations.

Could be a steal at No. 26.
