Philly's pick is lottery protected.

Oh ok so best case scenario.....Philly gets the #8 seed? This was actually a genius move by Riley. Philly will never be good enough to get a pick 25 or later. and no #27 pick is going to make us or break us. So give up that pick at 27, and probably get around the 16-21 range next season. I love it

I'd much rather have Allen than Terry. Terry can create his own shot better, but that's all he can do better than Allen. Ray fits our team much better. He's a better defender and better spot-up shooter.

Terry may actually be better for the regular season because we won't want to play the big 3 40+ minutes a night, and Terry can create offense by himself off the bench. But when it comes down to the 4th quarter in the playoffs, I'd much rather run something like Wade-Allen-Battier-LeBron-Bosh and let LeBron and Wade create open shots for Allen than slotting Terry in there.

5-on-5: Picking out the best landing spots for marquee players on the open market

4. What's the best landing spot for Ray Allen?

Kevin Arnovitz, ESPN.com: Miami. Allen makes a ton of sense for the Heat for a couple of reasons. First, he fits snugly into Miami's committed strategy of opening up the floor by surrounding LeBron James with shooters. Second, Allen understands how to move without the ball, a skill that will help the Heat's occasionally stagnant offense from descending into rigor mortis.

Maurice Brooks, ESPN.com: Miami. I would love to see the Celtics' big three make one more run at it. It's easy to imagine how many easy trifectas Ray would get off of drive-and-kicks from James in Miami, but a completely healthy Boston team, with Allen spacing the floor, is talented enough to play with anyone.

Israel Gutierrez, ESPN.com: This one depends on how badly Ray wants back in the NBA Finals. If he wants a sure thing, he'll settle for a reserve role with the Heat and be a more reliable version of Mike Miller. If he wants to roll the dice a bit, the Clippers would be an ideal fit. With Allen and Lamar Odom, the Clippers would have a solid shot at reaching the title round.

Zach Harper, Daily Dime Live: Boston. With potential pay cuts for Ray and KG, the Celtics can add a couple of veterans to round out the rotation. While the window for competing with Miami is probably a lot smaller than Boston believes, it can re-tool short-term to make a solid run at the East with the right pickups.

Justin Verrier, ESPN.com: Miami. It'd be a shame if Allen can't finish his career in New England, a place he loves and in which he has deep roots. But the fit is too perfect with the Heat. You want to surround LeBron and Dwyane Wade with as many shooters as possible and Ray is still one of the best in the game when healthy.

the JET on this team would feel wrong, but he's a combo guard. He can play point and he's younger than ray

Question about Varnado.....how do we pay him?

Nice.

Honestly - could be better then Allen with us. better creater, younger.

Why do we care that he's a better creator? Allen was a lot better from 3-point range last year and plays better defense (and is taller). When it comes to the 4th quarter in the playoffs I'd much rather have LeBron and Wade creating for an open shot for Allen than Terry. Terry isn't going to be used to create anyways with LeBron and Wade on the floor.

Maybe during the regular season Terry might be better (Wade/James play less minutes), but not in the playoffs.

Let me rephrase it, do we have an exception that let's us pay him more than the vet minimum?

Other than the MLE of course

^ Terry actually shot better then ray Ray in the playoffs. much better. he's also more healthy. and he can play both PG and SG, that's a big plus for us..we got Wade playing big minutes at SG.

My Dream off-season at this point :

Get Terry for Mini-MLE
Get Kenyon Martin for 2.9Mil$ (Miller's disabled player exception)
If Dalembert looks good, we could trade for him in mid-season using the Philly draft pick.

Rotation :

Mario/Terry/Cole
Wade/Terry/Harris
Lebron/Battier
Bosh/Haslem/Varnado
Dalembert/Kenyon Martin/Pittman

That's one strong, deep, versatile team right there. Can play big, small, half court or run.
Would dominate.

But you're right, if ray allen signs with them, then they've basically got the same team as last year only a year older. They'll have bradley back though, that'll help them. Clearly we can make a good run at the championship with this same team if we have to...I really wanted us to get someone that could give James and Wade a breather next run down. I guess we can hope for big things from the continued development of Pittman, Cole, and maybe Harris.

The rest of the league is definitely looking a little scarier. But if Wade comes back in great shape, healthy, having worked on his shot and stuff, I think we'll be way more dangerous than last year.

KG is smart and got paid. Remember he has a ring. I dont see Bosh playing center until the end of the season near playoff time and i dont see Lebron playing PF. Boston can still sign Ray if they want just to keep him out of our hands.

this

KG got paid, that doesn't make Boston smart. They paid for a guy who can really only give them another year of top flight production. He can't play that many minutes a game already, and now a year older he's not only at an increased risk for injury but will diminish in addition to that. 1-2 years makes sense, 3 years is not a smart move for Boston. And let's not call KG smart. Taking a lucrative contract that your old team is willing to offer you, at 5 billion years old, isn't smart, it's common sense.

Does anyone have any idea when the complete summer league roster will be released? I feel like I'm missing something.

Wtf? Does Ronnie want more money or something?

I am utterly shocked he doesn't pick up his option....
