Will the 2013 Regular Season be fun or a drag to watch?

Post#1 » by WadeInTheWater » Sat Jun 30, 2012 8:58 pm

This thought came to me today as we approach Heat/NBA shut down season and go into football mode for a few months.

To me these past 2 years have been all about the playoffs (although the 1st year of the big 3 we cared from the start because we wanted to see how it would look on the court). It sounds ignorant because you have to put in work during the regular season to get that home court, however in reality we know this Heat team is more than likely gonna lock up home court in the East and the Finals while barely moving into 3rd gear so to me that's why i see it as a bit of drag and especially the season just gone because personally i couldn't wait for the 66 games to be done with so we could just get into redemption mode for what happened in 2011.

I feel this upcoming reg season is gonna feel alot like "let's just get these 82 out the way and make sure we're healthy for a chance at history". Now obviously i along with all the other Heat fans will be glued to TV's/arena seats for games against the Bulls, Celtics, Pacers, Spurs, OKC and Lakers but i'll find it hard to get pumped for the road trips to Milwaukee, Washington etc. knowing the highs of what we achieved last week.

That's my personal view on next season.

It'll be painful like last two seasons were. If you thought they got complacent and didn't seem to care about reg season games when they hadn't won a championship, wait till they come back as defending champions. They're going to get the benefit of the doubt from everyone now, there's not much for them to prove in the regular season and I think that'll result in some painful games to watch as a fan. I'm actually thinking about cancelling my league pass.

i beg to differ
i think next season is going to be fun as hell

no more overreacting to every game, every qtr, every possession, every facial expression (at least for me)
no more annoying "can this thing work??", "is this coach capable??" debates

if we lose a game, so what, we're the defending champs
everyone knows the road to the title goes thru MIA and what we're capable of when we play at our best

It would be fun though if they took on the Jordan Bulls attitude, steamrolling through the season 8-)

Im with GetMonry. If we get the free agents we want this season will be fun as hell. less pressure, less minutes to the big 3, play a much deeper rotation, try out some things, develope the young guns. could be awesome. but we need to add some talent this summer. then rock it all year long without sweating.

I dont know. I think LeBron will attempt more game winners (actually make a couple).

He's got the monkey off his back so it will be interesting see how he plays now.

The same crap is going to happen every year.

We're going to have some highs, some lows, people will say we're done, everybody's declining and losing athleticism, we have no team, blah blah.

HEAT NOT CLUTCH!!!

just getting another ring matters at this point.

I have a feeling next year will be like 2011 when they just want to get to the playoffs and will have a bad regular season basically.

This team, unlike last year, can get a pass for crappy regular season games. They are about the playoffs. Last year I didn't give them a pass because they didn't win anything and I was sick of them thinking they won already and would play terrible.

But they can get a pass.

i am just curious about how wade will play in this regular season. also i wonder how much minutes the big 3 will take per game. i don't have a league pass and in my country, most of the matches are at midnight like 3.00 am in our local time. i tried my best to watch every match this season but i think i will not make a sacrifice of my sleeps except for important games in the regular season. we have already proved ourselves. no need to spend energy for regular season.

Like GetMoney said, a ton of pressure is off the team so watching the games won't be as stressful. I just want our guys to rest up during the regular season and hope Dex, Cole, and others mature. Now when we play like ass in the regular season, at least we can excuse it by saying we're champs instead of just making up excuses like last season.

This is exactly what I was thinking. The season will still drag on but the pressure of every game is gone. We now have faith that this team knows what they are doing b/c we have seen them do it. No more overreacting so especially the start of the season will be a lot of fun.

Also I think the roster will be the Best we have had in the Big three era. I look forward to seeing Wade come back more comfortable working off of Lebron and think it is just gonna be a lot more fun watching games w/o thinking about will they ever win a ring.

Normal NBA seasons are too long IMO. It felt right when games started on Christmas last year. I wish that was always the case.

It's going to be a lot more relaxed than the two previous seasons for me as a fan.

This core group of players has proven they can win it all together. Seeding doesn't matter anymore IMO. Just don't get fatigued or injured heading into the playoffs.

Aside of the points GetMoney made, it'll also be more fun because we return to a regular schedule. The condensed season had a lot of s*** basketball in it due to the compressed format caused by the lockout.
From a Heat standpoint, this title was just a start of something bigger. This championship was cool, but with this team we have the chance to create something legendary and set our franchise apart from most teams. After winning it all this year, I'm hungrier than ever.

EVERYONE PLAYS: In addressing the lineup dynamic his team developed during the postseason, where the lane was cleared for LeBron James and Dwyane Wade by playing Chris Bosh at center and Shane Battier at power forward, Heat President Pat Riley in essence may have acknowledged the end of an era of the Heat featuring non-scorers in the lineup, such as Joel Anthony and his defensive-minded predecessors in the middle. "Small ball is becoming a big thing in the league," Riley said, "and I think it's going to become even bigger in how you can find space for your great players, with one big that can be an offensive-minded player that has to be guarded."

I find it funny that everyones talking about this team just cruising to the playoffs now that it knows what it takes.

I don't think that's the case at all. If anything, the last 2 years were more about just getting to the playoffs, because they had to get that 400 pound gorilla off their backs (especially LeBron).

Now, you're looking at a team that can just go out and play their game for 82 games. If there were any year that this team actually challenged 72, it'd be this next one coming up. Yeah, I said it.

We are playoff team, period.Last 2 years we didnt put much in regular season, but did better during playoffs. It will be same story.Following this year, and how we won it..being down in every series, coming back and winning.plus being down double digits, coming back & winning..
I think overreacting will be little during losses in regular season.
