*Official: Asik a Houston Rocket

Post#1 » by zapatasblood » Sun Jul 1, 2012 4:07 am

The Rockets are prepared to offer Omer Asik an annual contract offer in the $8 million range.

Asik is a restricted free agent of the Chicago Bulls.

Houston similarly pursued Marcin Gortat at the start of his free agency in 2009, though he eventually signed a $34 million offer sheet with the Mavericks that was matched by the Magic.

Wow this would be a horrible move on the part of the Rockets. So it looks like more then likely these lose out on their big time moves and targets of Howard,Smith,Gasol,Gordon....ect and could just end up with three rookies and a horribly over payed back up center in Asik.If this happens I feel bad for the loyal fans of the Rockets.

Im not happy but i can see the merit of a 30 million deal for asik. To pry him from thr bulls ur gonna have to overpay. Assuming he is worth 5 million per year, his contract will only be terrible in the 3rd year. By the 4th season he will be a perfertly tradable expiring contract.

i barely got to see the bulls play so dunno much about asik. i def dont want him to take up 8mil per year. thats what lee's askign for and dragic would be at that range

i hope morey believes he can become a solid starting center

i think i agree w/ guy. a solid backup/spot starting center is worth 4-6mil. not that much overpaying at 8mil/year. with a smart gm it wotn be much of a problem to work around that. we already got a million power forwards, so he just has to worry about the other 3 positions, and hopefully re-sign camby for the vet min

To be fair dalembert was way more accomplished than asik.

But sammys problem was that he wanted 11 million a year and we only gave him 7 and then forced him into a team option. He wasnt happy and he half assed on the court. He gave us very inconsistent effort and clashed with the coach.

Asik will be overpaid so im sure he will be estatic.

thats not a bad contract at all. dalembert a proven defensive/rebounding starting center. i didnt think we'd get him for that cheap

Neil Olshey and he Blazers will meet with Omer Asik and make an offer, according to sources.

Asik is also being pursued by the Rockets, while the Bulls can match any offer.

lol...i still think somehow that Morey will make an offer for Dwight even if we get Asik...we still have money for both and too re-sign Dragic ....or i could be wrong...who knows :-? ...what is the rule of trading someone you just signed?

kind of overpaying for a backup C, especially if we can retain Camby at a cheaper price

Camby is maybe good for 15-20 minutes a game but to have two defensive specialist does not excite me but we need another center.
