"This is strictly my opinion, no insider information, but my opinion. With not knowing what direction the Magic and Rob Hennigan are going, I can only make the suggestion if I am Hennigan I call Sam Presti, in OKC, and offer them Dwight and whatever else to go with him and put the ball in Dwight's hands. Let him be the one to say 'no I do not want to play with Westbrook and Durant' and go to Brooklyn looking foolish"
"If Orlando can get solid core pieces like Ibaka and Harden, or Perkins and Perry Jones, then you really cant say no. Helps both teams out."
that is EXACTLY my thought process. if we have to trade Dwight, we can't go wrong by shipping him out West, getting back solid young pieces to build around, and improving the one team that can stop Miami becoming a dynasty.
as for OKC, they aren't able to pay these players what they're worth. between Harden and Ibaka, someone won't be getting offered the contract they think they're worth, and OKC may be faced with losing them. they also know that they won't beat Miami until they can control the paint and force LeBron outside.
they take the gamble on Dwight because they know it will be damn hard for him to walk away from a championship contending team. heck, there's every real chance they could win it all next year. how does Dwight walk away from that and save face?
most of all, OKC have to hedge their bets. they won't give up BOTH Harden and Ibaka. Perkins contract is a $7M stone that's weighing them down. he's just not worth it.
Howard for Harden, Perkins, Maynor, Perry Jones.
Dwight
Ibaka
Durant
Thabo
Westbrook
and
Perkins/OQuinn
BBD/Nicholson
Hedo/Q/Perry
Harden/JRich/JJ
Maynor/Duhon
still plenty of room to make moves after that. unfortunately, that team would compete for the playoffs and probably just miss out. it's not well equipped to lose to guarantee us some top picks.
I would be OK with just extended harden and pj. Strategically, it makes more sense not to take back an older center and roll with whomever we got. If we are gonna lose, as James may would say, we may as well do it properly.
