Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves
I thought teams were going to reign in their spending, wasnt that half the reason we had a lockout?
Garnett's contract is silly money. You could argue he is worth it, and perhaps they needed to get out the cheque book to keep him in Boston?
$10m+ for a 39 year old Garnett seems like a heck of a lot though. Wasnt he talking about retirement? Now hes signing a 3 year deal? LOL

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

Well, the spending was reined in by the lockout with players now guaranteed 51.15% of the league revenue rather than the 57% that they were getting before. It's almost like a super secret hard cap (both floor and ceiling), but for the teams collectively rather than individually. Also, owners don't have to make as long of commitments with four year deals now being the norm instead of five; that provides some flexibility.
However, for the stated value of the annual salary on the contracts being handed out this summer, I've been of the opinion that it'll be peddle-to-the-meddle since I saw how much cap space was out there. The incentive for not spending is less than most people think, IMO. The deals look bad, but the owners will pay the players 51.15% of the league revenue no matter what the contracts say.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, little Timmy came across a mysterious saddlebag filled with gold bars....
Portland ready to drop the max on da Hibbanought:
Wolves offering up to $12.5 million a year on Batum:

Houston might go $8 million per year to Asik?
Portland ready to drop the max on da Hibbanought:
sam_amick Source: Portland GM Neil Olshey & team prez Larry Miller visited restricted free agent center Roy Hibbert tonight in DC, offered max deal
sam_amickIndiana did not offer a max deal, and Hibbert is now leaning to Blazers unless Pacers match. One other unnamed team offered max.
Wolves offering up to $12.5 million a year on Batum:
Portland Trail Blazers restricted free agent forward, Nicolas Batum, has been contacted by the Minnesota Timberwolves and what is being called a "serious offer" has been made and discussed and the two sides will meet in Minnesota later today to deliberate on it further, according to a source very close to the situation.
The detailed figures that are being mulled over is a four-year, $45-50 million deal.
The New Orleans Hornets and Toronto Raptors have also reached out to Batum's agent, Bouna Ndiaye, and meetings with those teams have been agreed on and will be scheduled shortly after the Minnesota trip, a separate source said.

Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves
Regarding Batum, the GB discussion says the contract was 4/50-60. That is insane, simply insane. I'm not a fan of th Okafor/Ariza trade, but i'd rather have Ariza at 2/15 than Batum at 4/60.
Hibbert isnt close to a max contract player based on his oncourt production. However, market dictates value. I dont see how McGee gets anything less than 4/40...and that might be selling it short too.

Wow. So the Crazy Season has begun.
Hibbert for the max.
E.Gordon will ultimately get the max
Batum for $12.5M
Garnett for $11.3M
G.Wallace for $10M (actually, this one isn't that bad)
Asik for $8M
The Nets trading for Joe Johnson's contract
Hibbert for the max.

The Hoopshype rumors site says that Joe Pryzbilla is looking to come back for a 13th season. He might be a nice addition for us as an end-of-bench guy on a vet minimum deal.

Hibbert at 4 years $58 million isn't that bad... looks like JaVale will be offered 4 years $40+ million by someone.

If they can fit Deron Wiliams and somehow put a package together for Dwight Howard, that deal looks great.
It looks like about market rate and might look a bit like a bargain when this offseason is over.

Boston reportedly offers Ray Allen a 2yr/12mil deal, effectively doubling Miami's expected offer of their mini mid-level exception of 3mil per year.

I don't think it's a good deal for Wallace who turns 30 soon.

Yeah, he could drop like a rock with his age, physical style, injuries and reliance on athleticism. It probably is market rate as Verbal said, but market rate isn't looking very attractive.
More good news for the Nets is that they're reportedly also looking to get Joe Johnson's remaining $80 million dollars, so they might have that going for them too.

Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves
The embarrassing thing was trading for Wallace in the first place. They keep going double or nothing with "win now" but unless they can somehow get Howard, all they'll have are some brand names on the roster to fill out the box score. A healthy Williams/Wallace/Johnson/Lopez/Humphries lineup could win some games with star power (Knicks style), and maybe that's all they can hope for at this point, since they don't have anything in the pipeline.

I think Allen will accept that. He made $10 million last season so going down to $6 million is not that steep of a paycut. I think its a fair offer by the Celtics.

Not that I really thought we had a shot, but that Celtics offer pretty much shuts the door on the notion of us signing Allen to a 1-year deal to mentor Beal.

Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves
Omer Asik has received a 3 year $25 million deal from the Rockets and has agreed to it.
The breakdown on Asik deal is
Y1: $5 mil.
Y2: $5.225 mil.
Y3: $15 mil.
it's structured so that the Bulls will be in the luxury tax to match it. Morey is a bad ass

I wouldn't be surprised if he's Westbrook-lite because Westbrook is possibly the most athletic player in the NBA. His combination of strength, quickness, and explosion (which I think Waiters lacks) is unmatched. That said, all the pundits who think Waiters was a reach will change their tune, and quickly.
Waiters was a good pick for them. But I think Zeller got screwed not landing in Dallas.

Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves
lol @ Asik getting $8m a season. There goes another one of those "cheap alternatives" we were talking about in the trade thread a week ago.
"We coulda had Asik and Cartier Martin! But noooooooo the moronic front office had to go and sign two legitimate players with our cap room.

Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves
Even though Okafor signed his contract with the Hornets, his contract looks like it'll be on par with what bigs are getting.
Kinda glad the front office is sitting this one out. Just seems like contracts are gonna get more insane.
