I really have no issue with the Bulls not paying the tax. My issue with the Bulls is not paying the tax and then being dumb with their money, forcing themselves into bad situations later. Even if Asik is a $15M expiring, I think it might be BYC and in trade, the Bulls would have to take back a lot. Between Boozer, Rose, Noah and Asik, the Bulls would have $60M tied up in 4 players (two of which play the same position).
The Bulls simply can't match this. If they do, they are flaming idiots who will pay dearly for the decision in 2014/15, the prime of Derrick's career.
The thing is we're mixing up 2014 and 2015. 2014 is the year of Lebron, Wades, Bosh Free Agents again who'll be in their 30's. They didn't sign here before, and I don't expect them to sign here again. It actually maybe wise to give Deng another year extension because he is expiring at the wrong time.
Derrick Rose Free Agent Class can opt out in 2015. Kevin Love, hopefully Eric Gordon are the obvious two targets. These guys are the targets we'd want and by then, Boozer and Asik will have expired and Noah will be on his final year.
The Bulls have 9 days to talk terms with the Rockets otherwise you really have no choice but to match in my opinion. The deal sucks on 2014-2015 but they made the decision to keep Asik and now they have to move forward with it. The deal can't be designed until the 11th so I believe they can still talk trade right? If Houston is unwilling to trade, we have no choice but to keep Asik.
