AK-47

AK-47 is rumored to want to come back to the NBA. I don't have the foggiest idea of the Jazz's financials.
1) Do the Jazz have Ak-47's bird rights?
2) Can they sign and trade AK-47?

Cannot sign and trade him because he was not on our team roster last year. I think we retain bird rights. As currently constructed we are only about $8M under the luxury tax threshold.

We need outside shooting which he does not provide. is future is probably with another team.

We can to sign and trade as you state we retain the bird rights so all we have to do is sign him and then trade him lol,

I would do it in a nano second. His shooting isn't bad his defense is excellent.
He also provides great passing and court vision.

I love AK, problem is he would take minutes away from Hayward....... Now, if we deal MIllsap and bring AK in to play back-up PF, that's another story......

I think signing AK is more likely if the Jazz deal either Millsap OR Harris. If the Jazz move Harris then I think Hayward is your starting SG, and you can start AK at the 3.

We need a starting 3, preferably one that is long/big and athletic and can shoot.

AK fits half of that and no one available in FA fits all of it. I think he's the perfect fit and solution to our lineup and I'd love to bring him back.

And from KOC was saying, we still can sign and trade him.

Question 88 from Larry Coon's FAQ:

The player must finish the preceding season with that team (deals are no longer allowed that sign-and-trade players who are out of the league, such as the sign-and-trade that sent Keith Van Horn from Dallas to New Jersey as part of the Jason Kidd trade in 2008).

AK was not on our roster or in the league at the end of last season.

David Locke has reported that any team who lost a player overseas due to the lockout, retains their bird rights this summer. Someone mentioned that we need a long, athletic, SF that can shoot.... Rashard Lewis fits that bill perfectly.

We should add the "cheap" qualifier to that list as well, though I don't think I would count Rashard as a good shooter at all anymore.

AK is younger by a year, not on a terrible contract anymore, and is a much better defender. Better shooter too. I would take him back in an instant at a good price.

can the jazz get him for the full MLE? or will it have to be more? if it's more, than i am not so sure. but he would be a great example for evans and favors and kanter, and even jefferson for that matter.

I think a 2yr/$12M total deal ($6M per) is realistic... AK can't make more than that anywhere else and I think unless someone offered a 4yr deal AK would choose the jazz over other $5M Per Yr offers. The only way AK could get more than $5M per is if a team with cap space goes after him and if today is any indication he is being overlooked.

Personally i would love to see him on Boston and I think he is a better option for them than Jeff Greene.

I also think resigning AK would allow us to move Millsap in a deal if we wanted to pick up some other pieces. I think we want to resign Millsap but I don't really want to be paying him more than $7M a year. If Millsap starts negotiations at $10M I say sign AK to hedge our bets and let Millsap ride the 6th man role all year and see what his value is in next years FA. Tough negotiators will win in this new CBA era.

What Houston did today with Asik and Brooklyn with Wallace... they will regret those deals.

I assure you AK could get bigger offers, just look at the offers being thrown out. For the full MLE I would sign AK, for more let him go elsewhere.

Haha why would anyone consider AK cheaper than Rashard Lewis? Both had albatross contracts.

with our luck we would sign him and wouldnt be able to trade him.... then we would have the some whining and mouning that was on the forums when we had him last time.

If that's the case, we'd be spending a lot on this year's team. I was thinking this should be another cheap year in preparation for future contention years, but bringing on Mo makes me think management want's to be good, and soon.
