Exactly this! He will be a HUGE trade asset in two years. The team must match. We will see if Gar is a man of his word.

Who exactly is going to want to trade for Omer at $15m? That's not a trade asset at that point, it's a horrible contract. Houston is paying him $8m and everyone considers that a stretch. No one is going to want to pay him double that. Only realistic trade at that point is moving him for another bad contract.

Asik was a 2nd rounder, we don't have much invested in him.

Admit defeat and walk away Paxson for the love of god.

I understand why people are bringing up the Nocioni situation, but saying it's the same thing is wrong. We signed Noc for 5 years. This is a 3 year. That's pretty short term, and his salary is reasonable within the majority of the contract.

I dunno. I'm not saying we should undoubtedly match, but matching wouldn't be bad, IMO.

I just get the feeling, as someone else said earlier, we should have traded him while we had the chance.

Agreed.

Trade him sometime in the 1st 2 years when he is only making 5 and 5.25 million. Maybe even as early as this years upcoming trade deadline.

S&Ts are not possible. Asik can bank that money, its already offered to him and his signature makes it a done deal. All the Bulls can do is kindly ask him not to sign it

We did for Ben Gordon. Why turn the other way because a significantly worse player could be let go for the same compensation?

Gordon was the #3 overall pick as well.

Asik a 2nd rounder.

Consider what we got out of Asik as a 2nd rounder a gift and move on.

Not sure how it's a $100m cash team in 3 years time and that's after you lose one of Noah or Deng ( when Deng's contract is off the books in 2 years )

easy. Because people are saying you keep Omer to keep the team intact. So yes, Deng's contract expires and then he'll want a new one. Same with Gibson. If you're now saying that keeping Omer is actually going to make you replace these players, why would you keep Omer? The idea is that you're just going to keep everyone. My point is, that you can't keep everyone unless you want massive tax penalties (and this is coming with a Boozer amnesty) and which guy is the one you would give up first

Your starting SF Luol Deng
Your third big/likely starting PF Taj Gibson
Your current starting C Joakim Noah OR a SG that was acquired for Noah
or
Your backup center Omer Asik

To keep Omer means you're getting rid of a better player later. There's no way around that.

NO ONE wants to pay Omer $15 million in crazy luxury tax times and no one is going to risk that they can't move that deal for something more appropriate. I don't get why people want to re-create the Knicks where the idea was to keep taking bad contracts, wait until they were expiring, then flip them for average players on bad contracts. Why is this the way people want to build a team?

Bulls aren't re-allocating Asik's money to get the perfect player we need. There's a great chance that if you lose Asik, this results in Korver's option being picked up instead of not being picked up. That's it.

Just what we need, the Heat getting Camby.

Multiple reports say Marcus Camby has narrowed his free agent choice to five teams: Knicks, Heat, Spurs, Celtics, and Mavericks.

That is inevitable now.

Letting Omer, Korver, Brewer and CJ go, and replacing them with Kirk Hinrich also means we have decided to go a different direction and aren't winning with that team.

How is someone not a fan because they don't want to see their team **** their salary cap for a backup center?

It's easily going to be one of the worst moves of the Paxson Era if the matches. Easily.

When I re-read what I wrote, I didn't take from it that I'm saying you, or whoever aren't fans.

I'm saying, be a fan in the traditional sense of a fan. One that enjoys the product on the court. Not one that doubles as the teams accountant. Let the FO worry about the salary cap. They made the bed...Pay that tax or stop BSing us...

I just think it's funny how fans, nowadays, change their opinion so drastically because of what a player is making.

Some team would want Asik at Deadline or in the Summer. Trading him then once we have a long term Backup Center Spot in place would be ideal.

If the Bulls weren't going to match, they should have traded him last trade deadline.

And our Jew owner isn't paying the tax.

Like what?

How am I supposed to know? I just have a problem with people saying that we're going to be paying x player, y player, and z player these salaries in 2014. How do you even know those same guys are going to be on the roster? Rosters change a LOT in 2 years.

Lol KG's contract is a bargain compared to some of the offers getting thrown around. This contract is a joke and I say that really liking the guy.
