Don't worry, Farrell still has Pauley ready for a save situation next game.

Canada Day tie game --> Cordero and Chavez. our best (and rested) relievers watch..

think about the literal insanity of these decisions, for which there is never accountability. screw Farrell AND Anthopoulos.

The patrons are getting their money's worth.

(This is what I tell myself when I shoot badly in golf, the last few holes might as well buy me a few more swings.....)

Yeah... I've cut AA some slack for a long time now... but he needs to do two things.

1. Get rid of Cordero immediately, since Farrell is incapable of not using him in high leverage situations.

2. Get rid of Farrell after this season. There's no way it will happen in-season.

How could anyone with the experience he had as a pitching coach be THIS BAD at managing a bullpen?! It's insane, beyond belief.

Farrell is signed for one more year after this. I would be very surprised (but excited) if AA canned him before the end of the deal. Farrell deserves to get fired though. He deserved it after his performance as manager last season.

this off-season will say a lot about Alex. everyone knows 2013 has to be a realistic race into the last week. he finally has big decisions to make. i believe he's shown less ingenuity than people give him credit for. rebuilding is more about commitment, which to his credit, he has shown. but next year there's more overlap with prospects, serious pitching holes, and legitimate managerial questions.

early on he could do win/win things like unload Wells and turn Marcum into Lawrie. this off-season puts more of his reputation on the line than ever though, because for once, no matter what his decision is, it will carry more of an element of risk than ever.

Greinke, Dempster, Edwin Jackson, Kuroda, Colby Lewis, Liriano, Marcum, Peavy, Anibal, McCarthy, Oswalt, Saunders, and possibly Haren & Santana form the Angels, who have options.

Not sure if any of them have signed extensions yet. Sure looks like a ton of decent arms, though.

I think they are hoping Cordero pitches well and a contender trades for him. Honestly that is the only thing I can believe is running through Farrell and AA's head at this point.

Cordero's use this year is eerie similar to Camp's use last year. Seriously overworked and not performing.

They have no choice but to run him out there because they dumped 5 mil on him to be an alternate closer and they have nobody else since Jannsen was forced to take over closer. I am really questioning the decision to sign Oliver if he required this kind of babying by Farrel. I mean, it's like the guy can only pitch once a week/a batter a week at this point. If I knew that's how they were going to use him, I think they should have strongly considered not signing him at all.

Basically the plan is to use him in low to mid situations and see if he handles them, and then promote him when he looks OK. Rinse and repeat. Unfortunately, lately he's not allowed many runs (despite multiple runners reaching base and tremendous defensive plays being required), so they figure he''s coming around. To be honest, it's getting pathetic now.

It seems Farrel basically is managing "series to series" with his bullpen, trying hard to save his relievers for what he considers "key games" in a series. Today he figures we already got a split minimum so he tries to slide some crap relievers by the Angels and they pummel him for it. Now, he's got his top relievers available for the KC series, which he thinks he can get a sweep or some extra games in. In Boston, he just made a terrible micro decision because he got caught up in matchup.

Sigh. Let's hope AA makes some better moves next year. To be honest, I don't think he envisioned these guys would really be the backbone of the pen, but the injuries have forced them into overusage. AA has done so well with the position players--now it's time to fix the pitching and frankly, the manager.

I think he'll continue to manage this way until the all-star break or he gets Morrow back. Then the Jays will re-set the rotation and the bullpen and maybe we'll finally see some less idiotic decision making. Until that time, it's manage for the split or the series win philosophy.

Why the **** are scrubs like Chavez, Pauley, Cy Richmond, Cordero still in our bullpen. We got some young arms in the farm we can bring up. Beck, Carreno (as a bullpen guy, clearly can't start at this point), Dyson etc

or instead of delaying the inevitable he could trade Escobar or Hech to keep us competitive this season without really losing anything.

A very, very good question.
