Since our 2s are pretty undersized (Hendo and Gordon), I can see Taylor getting some time at the 2 to play alongside MKG. He's a great perimeter defender, and can stroke the 3, and has good size. Great pick, I think he can probably start if he wasn't picked right with MKG.
Who I woulda took:
2023: Miller | 2022: Duren | 2021: Bouknight, Jones | 2020: Ball | 2019: PJ | 2018: MPJ | 2017: Monk | 2016: Damian Jones | 2015: Winslow | 2014: Vonleh, Napier | 2013: McLemore | 2012: MKG | 2011: Knight, Kawhi

It may be just me but his body language and his statements doesn't seem to fit together. I understand that ending up in second round when you are told to go in twenties and on top of that being pick with the very second pick of draft who plays the same position could be tough. And go to the historically bad team who you didn't work out for on top of that. I hope it's the former and not the latter. I like the guy, it may just be he has introvert, emotionless face I can't read but he being quite outspoken contrast with Kidd-Gilchrist who is lucky to finish a simple sentence but you can see his excitement (that is not meant as a knock on MKG, I hope he gets better in that, but it is hard to watch his interviews). I stumbled on some past confidence issues I hope those are gone if there were any and he will fit right in.

Edit: I was yet to watch press conference and went by the one on one. Jeff seems eased up in that conference.

Vandy blogger here. Taylor is VERY reserved, so I wouldn't read ANYTHING into his demeanor in the initial press conference. If you look up any vandy postgame pressers on youtube, you'll see that even after some big wins, Jeff is pretty subdued.

I liked his comments during his one on one interview when he said that at Vandy he was part of a 7 freshman class, so they took many beatings his first year, but they grew and they started to win. He seems to get it. This is an opportunity. He could have been buried on some playoff team's bench never even seeing the floor.

#Bobcats sign Jeffery Taylor. Shaky as team's history is with 2nd-rd picks, he looks so far like a keeper.

Aren't second rounders only 1-year, with team options for years 2 and 3? He's probably making around $800,000 as the first pick in the second round...so he's outplayed his contract after one summer league game.

so yeah...UPS...later bro

I spent like an hour trying to think of a good Jeff Taylor comparison. 40 inch vert 42%+ 3pt shooter and now we get to see his D and motor in action and theyre both awesome. i couldnt think of a comparison without sounding like a massive homer but I really don't see exactly how he fell to us.

Like I said, I thought he was the best of the 3 Vandy players this year. Really surprised he fell to the 2nd round.

As far as player comps go, I'm drawing a blank too. I want to say prime Doug Christie but my memory is foggy.

A super athletic Dudley still rings true with me - although that comparison doesn't really provide the "oomph" it deserves.

He seems kind of like Thabo Sefolosha or Raja Bell. Competent defender and shooter...

Uh, maybe. Dudley played in the post a lot more in college and transitioned to SF in the pros like Battier, Taylor is a seamless transition. Plus, JT can defend 2-4 pretty well so far, not sure Dudley is that versatile a defender.

A bigger Raja Bell isn't bad either.

Houston was godlike as a shooter. I don't think AH was ever as athletic as JT either. He does look like Houston a lot in a light-skinned, multi-racial, 5 o'clock shadow kind of way.

I think we would be very fortunate.

If Taylor can make the full-time transition to SG and continue playing at a high level, I feel Henderson could be expendable in February. We have to keep in mind that he's up for a contract soon, probably 3-5m a year to keep him around and more if he were to bust out this year.

As a huge Dudley fan, I may or may not have had a boner the first time I heard that comparison.

houston was never known for defense. houston was more like klay thompson.

taylor should be known first and foremost for his 1v1 perimeter defense. as far as shooting goes, we saw what he can do when he is hot. i'll need to see him shoot like that over a long stretch of games before i start labeling him as a sniper type. the defense will be there every night.

raja bell, shane battier are two good comparisons that were mentioned. he's got a little bruce bowen in him as well.

He seems like he could be an Andre Iguodala like player- a good 3 point shooter with spectacular athletism and good D.
