Jeremy Lin. [Nets]

Post#1 » by thetrapman » Mon Jul 2, 2012 5:00 am

Just read this.

Jeremy Lin's return to the Knicks is far from certain, according to sources.

If a club offers Lin a backloaded contract that pays eight-figures in the third and fourth seasons, New York will not necessarily match it.

The Raptors are in the position to offer Lin a backloaded, 'poison pill' type of deal. Toronto is currently in pursuit of Steve Nash, but could pursue Lin as an alternative if they are unsuccessful.

The Knicks can offer Lin a four-year deal worth $24.5 million, but a rival team could go as high as $40 million over four years. The first and second seasons would pay $5 million annually and then $15 million in the final two seasons.

Toronto, Dallas and Brooklyn have all expressed interest in Lin, according to sources.

Why aren't the Nets paying anything possible to get Lin? Dude's a biggest money maker in the league, period. I understand Deron. But to hell with Deron, if I can get Lin, I get Lin, & build around that.

If they can sign Deron, I'd push for a trade with LA right after, build around the biggest money maker in the NBA.

oh the reason I said Nets, I believe his superstardom can be only fully tapped in NY, outside of NY it loses the effectiveness.

Toronto has the largest Asian community of any NBA city.

Toronto edges out NYC in terms of all Asians but you won't find many Thai, Cambodians, etc. rooting strongly for Lin. When you look just at Chinese then NYC and Toronto are about even.

Seems to me the Knicks are at risk of the same problem the Bulls have with Asik - being forced to risk a gargantuan luxury tax hit in the later years of a deal to match what another team could offer.

Personally, I don't think Asik is worth what Houston has offered him. But if the Bulls do match, amnestying Boozer will lessen the "gargantuan" luxury tax hit.

Agreed though it still would result in them paying insane money for Asik... to have an opportunity to pay Asik $15.1m in 2014-15 they'd have to pay Boozer $16.8m to not play. So it'd be like paying $31.9m to have Asik in 2014-15.
