Nets Trade For Joe Johnson

Post#1 » by Rich Rane » Mon Jul 2, 2012 9:07 pm

Johnson, who is still owed $89.3 million over the next three years, was dealt for Anthony Morrow; Jordan Farmar, who will be bought out at Atlanta's expense; Jordan Williams, Johan Petro, a signed-and-traded DeShawn Stevenson and the Rockets 2013 lottery protected first round pick.

The only way I approve of this trade is if DWill made a promise he will sign based on acquiring Johnson. Otherwise :-(

This had better mean Deron is slated to re-sign.

Update:
Adrian Wojnarowski ‏@WojYahooNBA

As teams finalize framework of Joe Johnson deal contingent on DWill commitment, Nets won't be sending future 1st to Atlanta, source tells Y!

Well... at least they keep their own draft pick! :)

But it's all for nothing without D-Will. :(

Stupid beyond words. You don't build around either Johnson or Williams.

You build around an All-NBA, DPOY Future Hall of Fame Center.

Naturally, if you are so lucky to have such a player. I think you can build around Williams but not an overpaid, over 30 Johnson.

The Nets obviously are making a push to get DWill signed, by adding proven All-Stars in Joe Johnson and Gerald Wallace. I think this trade and signing makes Brooklyn automatically better this coming season.

Simply unbelievable...

I take it back, it is believable considering who is running the team.

The fact that they didn't give away Green/Brooks/ our 1st round pick prevented me from jumping off the bridge. Joe Johnson is still a great basketball players and if he still plays like a great basketball player and this team becomes a playoff team the contract won't bother me as much. Just remember guys it's only 3 years left on his contract. Also don't blame Billy King for this if they resign D-Will the man had to do what he had to do

even then, wallace johnson and deron would be the core, alogn side lopez.

is that enough?

I'd like to think that's a top 4 team in the east but still, i don't think that's close to competing for a title.

Deron Williams: 2× All-NBA Second Team
Joe Johnson: 1x All-NBA Third Team
Dwight Howard: 5× All-NBA First Team, 3× NBA Defensive Player of the Year , 4× NBA All-Defensive First Team (2009–2012)

Howard is more valuable than the two combined.
And let's keep in mind he plays the fringest position in the league.

Billy King needs feelers, guys who go around the internet who look up on Nets fans' reactions when a rumor is started. I mean, I could guarantee there was no majority of a message board of Nets fans that liked trading for Joe Johnson when the rumor started.

If we trade for D12 (i don't know if it's possible), this tem would be great.

Deron, JJ, Gerald Wallace, Anyone and D12 would be an amazing team.

But if Deron leaves, this would be the worst trade of all time.

This is what it boils down to, unfortunately NBA contracts are inflated. That's just the nature of the beast. Obviously he makes the team better and if we re-sign DWill it will make us playoff caliber. Somehow NBA has to curb these astronomical contracts.

Out, no, there are still possibilities of a trade, but it won't be anytime soon. If at all, it would be at the deadline next season.

Humphries will be re-signed.
Brook will be re-signed.

And depending on their contracts, a trade of Humphries, Brook, Brooks, picks and Euro rights for Turk and Howard is still a possibility. Completely and entirely unlikely, but still possible.

Deron isn't going anywhere and neither is a team of him, Johnson, and Wallace.
