Actually, I think Marvin still has a lot of potential. That ATL team has been pretty dies functional for a long time. In a different situation, Marvin could still be a real contributor.

Is Marvin's contract expiring at the end of this year?

Funny how trade rumors get started. This one was suggested by David Locke as a possible trade that would work money wise, and with expiring contracts. There is no real trade links, just a thought by Locke. Kinnehan was just commenting on Locke's thought. Now it is here as a trade rumor.....
No wonder things get blown out of proportion.

Yes please. More of a position need, both expiring, equal talent.

Re: Rumor: Harris for Marvin Williams
From all the reports I'm hearing, all of them say that Marvin Williams is an expiring contract. But He is due $8,287,500 this year, and has an option for another season (2013-14) for $7,500,000. Can somebody explain why all the reports ignore the player option?

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

When PK writes "Possible destination for Devin Harris is Atlanta in return for Marvin Williams, pending health clearance" it makes it sound a bit more than just an idea that locke came up with.

Agree. His wording suggests either he has forthcoming and reliable sources or that he isn't quite bright enough to phrase things in a way which gets his idea across while not leaving room to read between the lines. PK being an unapologetic windbag, the latter would seem more likely.

Re: Rumor: Harris for Marvin Williams
It would actually be an awesome trade for the Jazz... not sure why everyone hates the idea of it so much.
LOL at you guys for saying it was made up by Locke and PK. Just reported that the trade has been agreed to in principle. In other words... Step one: Pull foot out of mouth. You guys are so quick to hate on the local sports media guys...

Re: Rumor: Harris for Marvin Williams
It's strange that PK is the ONLY one saying there's more than just a rumor. Compare it to the Mo Williams deal: there were multiple sources saying something was in the works.
Edit: Nevermind. Marc Stein is tweeting it now as well. Going up on ESPN.

Re: Rumor: Harris for Marvin Williams
You are taking on an extra year but you are getting a class act in return. He'll never live up to his draft position but he's a very good perimeter defender, rebounds very well for his position and spreads the floor.

Mark Stein at ESPN: just going online and on SportsCenter: Hawks have agreed in principle to deal Marvin Williams to Utah for Devin Harris to shed even more $

Re: Rumor: Harris for Marvin Williams
How about this possible deal?
Jefferson, Harris, and Bell for Josh Smith and Marvin Williams.
Why Utah does it: Gets rid of Bell, Harris is not needed with Mo WIlliams back, and Jefferson is terribel which allows Favors to start.
Why Atlanta does it: Atlanta is cleaning house and wants to get rid of long contracts. Getting 3 expiring contracts, Get rid of malcontent Smith, and Malcontent Williams who has an extra year on a bad contract contract.
Jazz lineup:
PG Williams Watson Tinsley
SG Hayward Burks Murphy
C Favors Kanter
PF Smith Millsap Favors Evans
SF Williams Smith Carroll
A better team and very good defensively...52-30
