Joe Rogan got his bjj black belt from Eddie Bravo recently. I wonder if he competes?
Anyway, iirc Rogan actually has a pretty extensive martial arts background. High rankings in bjj and tkd I know. Also think he has belts in karate and judo.

re: Rogan
No judo or karate, but TKD and kickboxing. And BJJ.
He def does not want to compete at BJJ. Even Bravo isn't willing to compete short of a serious purse and a serious name, there is too much self-discipline (weed, booze, food, sleep) and conditioning necessary. Neither guy wants to do it. Rogan on his podcast the other day said, "thank God I'm not a professional fighter"...thankful that he can just give up during a work-out if he's not feeling up to it.

Ahhhh cbr, I guess Rogan did kenpo karate when he was little before transitioning to tkd, that's where I got the karate thing. And I read he did judo on a forum, but that could have been inaccurate or else maybe he's done some judo along with his bjj through the years (is this normal?). I didn't know he did kickboxing.

Yeah, Joe has it about as good as someone could want it.
(For his interests)
I've always thought it would be great if Rogan could be involved in making the MMA judging better.
Like a special commissioner. Who has seen more big fights in the last ten years? No one.

Well I love it because they prove what I've known all along. But what I love the most is that there was no rampant nuthugging going on. They pretty much stuck to the facts comparing their size, their can crushing, who they've beaten and who've they've lost to etc.

I know that I'm in the minority in this one, but IMHO GSP is the P4P GOAT. He's arguably the P4P GOAT wrestler in MMA, and he has elite level striking and solid BJJ. I can't put Fedor or Silva as the GOAT because they wouldn't be able to dictate where the fight happens against elite level wrestlers. Yeah, Fedor was the king in Pride, but how many great wrestlers did he face? How would he have fared against Brock, Courture, Cain, or Cormier? Would prime Fedor even be capable of outstriking JDS and Overeem?
Silva is not a great wrestler and may very well lose this saturday. What welterweight would stand a chance against GSP? What's the fighting style/gameplan that would give him trouble? I've always thought that GSP would defeat Anderson with his wrestling, and if you could create a HW version of GSP, he would take down Fedor whenever he wanted to. I could see prime Silva and Fedor losing to wrestlers. I can't see prime GSP losing to anyone.

I'd have Bones winning against a LHW version of GSP.

That's fair. It's kind of silly for us to debate such a hypothetical matchup, but I think that at some point GSP would put Bones on his back, and we don't know how well Bones is from that position. In the 30 seconds he was on his back against Rashad he didn't look that good. Jon Jones has a 84.5 inch reach, but GSP's reach is 76. Who would have a longer reach, Jon Jones or a LHW version of GSP?

Well you brought up the HW GSP vs Fedor, so I thought it was fair game. GSP has an excellent reach for a WW. To put it in perspective, his 76 inch reach is longer than Machida, Rashad, Rampage, Hendo and it's equal to Shogun. But whatever, give him an 80 inch reach for **** and giggles and I still think Bones would be the favourite.

Oh, it's definetely fair game. How would you see that fight going? Do you think that Jon Jones would be able to finish LHW GSP?

Jones is the only guy who might be more athletic than GSP.

Probably something along the lines of the Jones/Evans fight. I could see Jones winning the decision or via GnP. GSP's only route to victory would be a decision IMO and I don't see Jones being controlled for the majority of this hypothetical bout.

Well the problem with Fedor record versus wrestlers (besides the fact that he didn't face many) is that even if he had most of his career was spent in promotions that put their fights on in rings rather than cages. So it would have been easier to deal with wrestlers since he wouldn't have to worry about getting trapped against the cage.
For me, what keeps Fedor above GSP are two basic factors. Firstly, Fedor was always considered a fairly small heavyweight that compensated for his size with well rounded skills, superior speed/athleticism and punching power. GSP is not a small Welterweight and still has many of those same advantages over his similarly sized opponents that Fedor did over opponents that were much larger. When Fedor lost to Bigfoot Silva he lost to a well rounded fighter who outweighed him by 30 pounds officially and probably 40-50 pounds unofficially the night of the fight. To put that in perspective it would probably be the rough equivalent of Frankie Edgar taking on Chael Sonnen. Considering GSP is hesistant to even move to middleweight where the size difference wouldn't be as noticeable I think you . The whole P4P argument is about how well your success transcends weight classes/differences. Unlike GSP, Fedor and to a lesser extent Anderson Silva both put those arguments to the test by either moving up divisions or fighting bigger fighters.
The second factor that lowers GSP's placement in my opinion is the ability to finish fights. Other than those nights where Anderson Silva decides to channel Usher he is a finisher. Fedor always tries to finish fights. GSP doesn't. Sure, he wins but to me the best have to be willing to take risks and be placed in potentially adverse situations. Why. Because if you're truly the best then you show it most when you're in adverse situations. Anderson Silva and Fedor didn't fear getting put in a bad situation so they went for the finish whenever the fought. GSP plays it too much too safe in comparison.

UFC making the Asia market entry decision they should have made instead of going to Japan. They're going to Macau.
