We cant do much of anything this offseason, not until these contracts expire, but you are right it is an exciting time

No one knows how this Dwight Howard drama will play out, but if he remains adament about Brooklyn and Orlando keeps him for the season, I could really, really see Howard changing his mind again and coming to Atlanta ... especially after he does the math and sees the difference between an MLE deal and a MAX deal (over 10 million a year).

Pretty sure he doesn't want to go there THAT BAD.

Also, if he changes his mind before the trade deadline, Atlanta could very easily step in with a Al Horford centered deal to nab him as well.

Very unlikely that we can re-sign Smith then sign two max players in Paul and Howard. Possible but very unlikely

We wouldn't get his Bird Rights though. If D12 starts the season in ORL, then he finishes it there. Couldn't see a team giving up value for him when it would mean that they have no better avenues to resign him than the 29 other clubs that didn't have him on their roster.

If we trade between now and February for Howard, we get the full Bird rights on him, since he doesn't change of contract, he's only traded. He's signing with ATL, he's traded.
