Per Marc Stein...
Hawks have agreed in principle to deal Marvin Williams to Utah for Devin Harris to shed even more $

They could conceivably go after Chris Paul AND Dwight Howard.
When we thought Ernie would be history and there was a "Who Should be the Next GM?" thread, I first thought about Danny Ferry. (Later, Troy Weaver became my first choice.)
Danny Ferry is doing just the opposite of Ernie Grunfeld. He is doing everything to clear space.

I cannot believe that they were able to dump Joe Johnson's contract. What a fantastic move for them. Basically, it keeps them from having to blow it all up and start over. Now they can keep their two young cogs (Horford and Smith) and add another piece via free agency and set themselves up for another 5 years of 50+ wins.

Ferry should win GM of the year on that move alone.

I know Dwight is an Atlanta native, but clearly he wants to be (a) on a bigger-market team and (b) the absolute alpha-dog on said team (c) possibly paired with one of his buddy buddies.
Atlanta would really only tick 2 boxes there. Is that enough?

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

Originally the deal was reported as including a draft pick going to Atlanta. Still I think netting Morrow and Jordan Williams, while not star players are not bad return for dealing the albatross know as the Joe Johnson contract.

They just cannot give away enough draft picks it seems.
Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.

Where's the long term planning? There is none, KG on a 3 year deal, Ray on a 2 year deal. You're wasting Rondo's prime.
It is kind of funny they had a good plan B if they stunk it up. Let Garnett and Allen walk and most likely deal Paul Pierce. However it doesn't seem like they had a really good "Plan A". I think the draft may help some next season, but I don't see it putting them over the hump.
they aren't going to get a PF as good as a 36 year old KG...
They made it to the East finals with a six man rotation, just think of that for a moment... they literally ran out of guys and were playing the likes of Ryan Hollins off the street to spell KG
They've added two bigs in the draft to develop, they get Jeff Green back... they will have a much deeper team for the regular season and will keep their vets fresh for the postseason... why not keep making a run in a WEAK Eastern conference?
BTW, The Nets are stupid. That is all.

I predict the Hawks will have a BETTER record next year WITHOUT Johnson than they did this year WITH Johnson. This is the classic Ewing theory at work. I think the offense will be more structured and focus around JSmoove and Horford. The future is bright for the Hawks.

Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves
Broussard is talking a 2 team trade at the moment on Mike and Mike in the morning and ESPN is blowing it up on there bottomline.....
Sources: The Nets & Magic are discussing a trade that would send Dwight Howard to Brooklyn for Brook Lopez, Kris Humphies, Marshon Brooks and picks.
Nets' picks that would be traded to Orlando would be 2013, 2015 and 2017, source says....

Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves
The Hawks have had a great offseason so far. They did decently in the draft, both players could end up being solid contributors as role players. Then they get rid of Joe Johnson's albatross of a contract and in addition to not giving up an asset to move him, they got a couple decent pieces Morrow and Jordan Williams. Also they get a decent option at PG - Devin Harris in return for a mediocre SF.
They do now have a significant hole at SF to address, but the rest of the team has some decent pieces and they have a lot more flexibility in the future.

I think that has the makings of a deal to finally move Howard. The players and picks above sound like a very good deal for the Magic.

The Nets will be fielding Joe Johnson and Deron Williams -- two over-rated players -- along w/ Dwight Howard. What will Howard say and do when they don't contend for a title I wonder?
And I also wonder why anyone would hire Billy King as a team's GM.

Those could make this deal look really good for the Magic. Also I think they get enough pieces to field a respectable(possible play-offs) team. I wonder if there might be a possiblity of trading with the Magic to get a shooter. The Wizards might have the cap space to trade for Reddick if Blatche is amnestied. Another option might be a blockbuster Justin Harper for Shelvin Mack.

Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves
I count $27.4 million on the books for the Magic, not including their rookies, Humphries, Brooks or Lopez. And they have a team option on Reddick which I think they should decline. They would be able to absorb Humphries' and Lopez contracts and still be under the cap.
