if we're going into rebuild/tank mode, we can't really be outmaneuvered. it's gotta get rough before it gets good, and finding takers for Hedo/Duhon/JRich etc may lose precedence if it means costing us future picks.

"Pole Position" would indicate they actually can put together a package that Hennigan finds attractive, doesn't it? I don't see Dallas having the pieces to manage that.

Unless he was referring to the old arcade game, in which case sure, they can have pole postion.

Ric Bucher @RicBucher

That didn't take long: now being told not to count out DH still making his way to the Nets. So list now is: 1.(Nets) Mavs.

Can someone help me understand something?

If Redick can't be traded until next Wednesday, but his contract has to be picked up by Sunday, for it to be guaranteed, what is there to think about when deciding what to do with him? why cut salary when we most likely won't do anything this summer? why not just keep him and possibly trade him in Feb? It's not like we can trade him this week to a team for them to waive him; that ship sailed when the draft ended.

I was just curious.

why doesn't he just stop?

Here's an interesting observation. When a story has serious legs, respected journalists (Berger, Woj, adridge, Amick, etc) RT the tweet and probably add "sources confirm, blah blah blah". But when a report is BS, no one RT's the tweet. I NEVER see any of Bucher's tweets re-tweeted, lol.

Only way he gets there by trade is if they find a third or fourth team that can send us better assets then they can offer.

Isn't Bucher the one Dwight got into it with and challenged about his so called sources? Lol. He made him look silly from what I recall.
Woj is the new Bucher. Shams is the new Woj. Espn is the new TMZ. The NBA is the new WWE.

We do not know what the other teams are offering. Last year we could just say we will take our chances keeping him. This year he has ruined everything in Orlando, tried to prevent other teams from going into the deal.

I hope we have good deals out there, but if the only one on the table is the Lopez, Brooks, 5 1sts that we had sitting last year who knows. If Deron signs with the Mavs I would be ok taking this deal. Dwight will struggle with the NY media.

I always thought the ending of the draft signaled the end of the season and no transactions could take place until the day FAs can SIGN contracts (2nd week in July). Meaning, trades can't become official until that day also. So if we trade Redick, and it isn't official until next week, it's past the deadline for his contract to be waived w/ no penalty. Then what is there to think about for Rob as to whether or not to pick up Redick's option, if he exemplifies everything you're describing to want in a player? If he's really considering waiving Redick, why? Not like we need the cap for anything (right?). Not like a team would trade for him to waive him as a cost cutting move, immediately.

Just trying to understand the man's thinking.

First off, Lopez is a restricted free agent that the Nets HAVE to much under any scenario. They need him to play center and if they are seriously still holding out hope of getting Howard they need him for that too. You can almost guarantee he will get overpaid.

Now would you rather let Dwight walk and have almost 40 million in cap space to spend as you please, or overpay a scrub like Lopez to build your team around just so you can get Brooks and some garbage late round picks.

The choice is obvious.

No harm in keeping the options open. If we take the Houston trade we would have KMart and Lamb so it might make sense to cut him and save money since we will need to give Lamb playing time and Redick is not going to get good mins.
